Latest Minis purchase

Plastic minis will further cut into metal sales and reduce it to a niche market. Other gaming companies are now getting into the minis market and it's just a matter of time.

Yes, metal minis are better quality. But when you can buy 10-20 common minis on Ebay vs. 2-3 metals, the choice to the masses is clear. Not to mention the minis quality continues to improve.

Compare, say, the Behir with any unpainted metal figure and the quality is not that much different at all. And most people have neither the time nor the desire to paint their minis.

Plastic is the way of the future, IMHO.

So do folks buy metal miniatures for their D&D games still?

Still happens, when I don't find any D&D Miniature that can represent my character. In fact, I'm looking for a human spiked chain wielder (Death Knell will have a half-orc.)

You must admit though, the nightwalkers buttocks are sublime.

Aaaaugh! *scrubs brain with lye and a Brillo pad*

I'm hoping that they do a sea themed set, because after all these miniatures I have, almost none of them are useful for my pirate campaign.

Yes, but I have to admit that plastic minis are consuming some of the budget that might otherwise go toward metal ones. If/when I buy a metal miniature now, it is primarily because I have not found an equivalent miniature in plastic. Given the relative new-ness of WotC plastic line compared to say Reaper's full catalog, it's easy to see why this is the case. I'm stillusing mostly metal minis for the PCs, but using mostly plastic for the monsters.

My campaigns feature some female PCs and NPCs, and one of the things that I'm really disappointed at in WotC plastic minis is the relative lack of female figures useable for PCs. But so long as they keep producing useable monster figures, I'm not really that worried about it. It just means I'll have to keep using a mix of plastic & metal which isn't a big problem.

I've recently be given my first ever set of D&D minis. Aberration pack, Alusair Obarskyr, Myconid Guard, Half-Illithid Lizardfolk, Gnoll, Gnoll Skeleton, Mountain Orc, Gnome Cleric of Garl, Kobold Sorcerer.

The underpaid Chinese kid who painted the gnoll was lazy, her eyes and teeths aren't painted. The gnoll skeleton, though, is impressive. And I like the look of the kobold! A alla goja, ho! Hopi hajata! Al heja goja, hoi! Goi! Hajata!

I still sure do.

I've bought probably 10 boxes of the D&D minis. For me, they make good NPCs.

I've got 3 Chessex carrying boxes full of painted metal minis, I've got another 100 or so in need of paint, and I still buy more. :D The metal minis tend to get used more for PCs, and it's a hobby I've enjoyed since '82 or so.
