Latest Nvidia Driver - Anyone?

Andrew D. Gable

First Post
So, I downloaded the latest Nvidia driver (61.77), because City of Heroes is actin' pretty funky on the system. But when I went to install it, it told me that it wasn't certified for use with XP... although it was clearly marked as XP on the Nvidia site. So I've been kinda holding off on installing it.

Has anyone else installed the driver, and can vouch that it works OK?

I imagine they haven't got the proper certificate from Microsoft yet, but will in the near future - if you wanted you could hold off until then. I'm using 61.76 and play City of Heroes without much trouble, so you might try installing that one if you hadn't previously. It's only a week older than 61.77, looks like 77 was released primarily to address issues with the GeForce 6800 cards, so if you have something different 76 may serve you just as well.

In the driver release notes, there is a mention of CoH problems - "GeForce 2, GeForce 4 MX, Windows XP: City of Heroes crashes to the desktop intermittently" which is listed as "not an NVIDIA bug", so if you're using one of those cards the driver update may not help.

I used to use Nvidia, I just upgraded cards this week. Had to get an ATI due to power supply issues. But anyways, 95% of the drivers I downloaded from Nvidia said they were not win XP approved when I installed them. It's not Nvidia's fault, Microsoft likes to test before they approve it. Whenever I check for updates with the microsoft site, it said I needed to download Nvidia drivers from like last October because those were the last ones Microsoft approved.
I have never had any problems with any of the Nivida drivers I downloaded that were not approved. I was using the 61.77 drivers before I switched, no problems. I don't play City of Heroes, but I don't think you will have any trouble.
