Learning CC2

Mercule

Adventurer
Okay, I picked up CC2 last year, just after Christmas. I've got all these great maps in my head, and even a couple of hand-drawn maps (I'm not bad at maps by hand). The problem is that I want the maps on the computer and just can never get CC2 to do what I want. I went through the enclosed tutorials, and it's still mysterious to me.

So, gurus, I ask, what is the best, easiest, and fastest way to learn this fine tool? I am extremely short on time. I need to cram as much information into, say, five to ten hours as possible.

If you are short on time, CC2 may not be the best product for you. The enclosed tutorials are what I learnt by, but it took time; lots of time. I was able to make basic maps pretty quickly, but to make good looking maps I had to do the tutorials over and over. It was worth it though:

Mailing list?

Which mailing list is it you speak of? My wife bought me CC2 and and CC City. I spent several months reading and playing with the programs, understanding nothing and having no maps to show for my efforts. Very disappointed in the tutorial, not the program, as I have seen some maps made by others. But still, I have better results with a paper, pencil, ink and pastels. A better tutorial would be much appreciated. :D

There are apparently "other" tutorials. I don't know where they are, but they're there. The folks on the mailing list talked about them once.

I've been using CC2 since about 1998. The current version, CC2 Pro, makes it *so* much easier and quicker to create maps than it used to with the new drawing tools, but you still have to do the tutorials. That really makes a difference.

I would try to do the tutorials in the book, that's all I've ever done. I think it took me a couple of hours to run through all the basics, and it seemed to work pretty well. I may not be doing things in the most effecient manner (or even properly for that matter) but my maps work. It's not really all that hard to learn the basics of the program... the higher end functionality might be a bit harder but I haven't had to use it yet to get good looking maps.
