Legality of AL adventures on Dungeon Masters Guild

The bigger cons work through their Venture Captains and aren't usually charged.
For smaller cons, it's hit or miss but usually the VC's get them.

That's part of the reason I'd be opposed to having the DM Guild be the only site for AL adventure downloads; unless there's some sort of credit program so that LCs and RCs can get the mods for free, we're just pushing part of the cost of the program onto the volunteers -- stores can't get the mods for free, and a significant portion won't pay, so the LC or RC for that region would need to buy the mod and distribute it.

It would be a bad precedent to follow, even if Paizo has gotten it to work somewhat.

Another potential issue with AL on the DM Guild -- currently, the most popular item in the store under the AL tag is the Gunslinger martial archetype, which I'm pretty sure isn't actually AL-legal. Still, I could see someone who bought the archetype thinking it would be legal, since it's prominently listed under the AL material.

Unless someone is vigilantly policing the AL section to catch stuff like this, I predict this sort of product confusion is going to be the biggest hurdle to having the DM Guild catch on with Organized Play folk.

Not suggesting that is or isn't the model (announcements later today and tomorrow), but why would the LC/RC have to pay? If a store or con did not want to pay the $2-4 for the file (likely passing the cost onto their customers in some way) and the DM or players were not willing to pay either, why would it be the volunteer's responsibility to buy it for them?

Paizo currently has a system where cons can get the adventures if they tell their VC the names of each judge and specifically what they are judging several weeks out, but if you miss the deadline, the Con or the DM still has to buy the adventure. That occurred at a con I was running last Fall. We had a table decide to run a pick up table of a game and we didn't have the adventure. There is no getting it free, so we choose to buy it as a service to our paying customers. We had Venture Officers in attendance (who didn't have the adventure), but I would never expect them to buy it for me.

There is currently a technical issue that has been identified that is causing the issue. And yes, we are policing it vigorously to remove items that are going in the wrong spot, but unfortunately that one happened after folks were out of the office. OBS has been notified however for when they get in. Also please note the file doesn't actually say Adventurers League on it anywhere, so hopefully that is at least a general hint, even if its not perfect.

Good to know the admins are on top of it!

That makes sense -- if a con puts in an order through Convention Support (or a store does the same via Wizards Event Reporter), they would get the adventures along with the other materials that would come in the support package. Heck, this is pretty much already how the Encounters program works, so it wouldn't be a huge step to expand it to Expeditions. (Not saying it would be insignificant, either, but not overwhelming, as far as I can tell.) As long as the local folks organize well in advance, there should be no issues.

Again, this assumes that what we're discussing is the system that will be announced, but if it is, that quells a lot of my concerns over the coming program changes.

Looks like an announcement has been made on the WotC site:

Gist seems to be that, starting with Season 4, WotC is dropping the Encounters/Expeditions labels and allowing anybody to organize an AL event anywhere via a package available from the DM Guild. Sounds pretty basic.

There's a different link to the D&D podcast where Mearls and Lindsay discuss the changes.
