Legions of Hell - Anyone using it?

I've read all the praise for this book, and I also think it's an excellent supplement, but I was wondering how many people out their have actually used the supplement in their games. I'm interested in knowing what parts of the supplement you used (unique lords, new devils, fallen celestials, prestige classes, etc.), how well the parts fit into your campaign, and the player's reactions.

Personally, I plan to use the Pain Mistress soon as part of an attack on a revolutionary camp. She will have tracked the PC's, who are believed to be accompanying a "renegade" erinyes - the target of her attack (the PC's don't know that she is an erinyes, and they are pretty clueless as to the presence of fiendish involvement in the world. That will change soon). The Pain Mistress will be accompanied by either two Osyluth or two Abishai, I'm still undecided as to which. Maybe I'll include one of each, because the Osyluth's dimensional anchor is key to their attack on the erinyes.

Anyway, I expect it will be frightening and challenging for my players. They are only 5th-6th level, so the three devils will pose quite a challenge to the entire camp. I expect the Pain Mistress's Symbol of Pain to be quite effective, and it will be pretty tough for the erinyes to escape her grappling claws.

After that, I'm looking forward to new opportunities to add devils into my game, but I don't see any for quite some time. :(

So, what are your experiences?

There are three I'm working on developing to use. One is definately the faceless, (they make for good assasins and I may adjust them to have the assasin Pr-class for one of their leaders IF the low rankers fail). Also I'm contemplating using the Ashemish as I might have a rogue devil duke come to the PCs for some odd reason. Finally, I may use Malgrin, Antita, Iblis and/or Vuall as central villains for an overall campaign. I haven't decided yet. But those are some of the ideas I have.

The Faceless look great, but I have questions about their effectiveness. I kind of wish that they had some sort of sneak attack. With a surprise action, they only get a single attack, so bloodletting won't come into play in a surprise round. Once initiative is rolled, they only have a +4 (no improved initiative), so there is ample opportunity for their target to respond or make his/her escape before the Faceless gets a chance to use its bloodletting. I would definitely be interested in hearing how they work out for you.

Funny coicidence, that. I just sat down at my computer with the very task you describe in mind. I was hoping PCgen supports making such a character (Alas, I see that they have Jade Dragons and Hungry ghosts done, but not legions of hell... aargh!)

Anyways, last adventure, my group got the chance to face some summoned gladiatrixes... which really hurt (they can realy dish out some damage!) This adventure, I was planning on them "stumbling on" a more powerful devil, I was thinking of either a Gelugon or an Ashmede.

Cool, Gladiatrixes are one of the devils I'd like to incorporate into my campaign. What level was your party? Do you think a party of six 6th level characters would be able to handle 1 of them? 2 of them?

12-13. My party faced a priest/summoner who summoned 5 of the creatures.

I think their CR is about right. One might sting a little but they should come through it. But two will be a serious risk to a 6th level party, especially considering that they gain bonuses when they gang up. This things can deliver three dire flail hits for 2d6+4 each. That adds up really fast when you have two of them ganged up on you with a bonus.

I just made a startling realization while I was in the chat room a couple of minutes ago -- I have used exactly TWO d20 products not from WotC in the past year and a half. One was Legions of Hell (one monster). The other was some spells from Book of Eldritch Might.

One of my PCs uses the psionics rules from If Thoughts Could Kill. So I guess in a way I'm using that though I just make the player keep track of that stuff. Likely I will buy it when it comes out in print and will use some of it.

I have run a campaign that meets about once a month, and in that time I've only created one NPC with a prestige class. I've used one of the WotC "adventure path" modules (Sunless Citadel), a couple of pieces of Dungeon Adventures modules, a bunch of FR stuff.

I've used two other "adventure path" modules for one-shot gaming. I haven't used a single D20 module. I have tons.

I still refer to two 2E FR products: Cloak and Dagger, and Faiths and Avatars.

Sorry to derail this thread, but I'm just shocked at the size of the stack of stuff I a) don't use and b) have no immediate plans to use any time soon.

Well I'd use more IF I a) could get sober players, b) times when and where we could meet regularly, c) I had the money.

I've run probably four d20 adventure/short stuff. Of the d20 stuff I own, probably the non Scarred Land stuff get's used...probably 10% if I push it.
