Underdark

Dontrius knows that there is nothing arcane or magical about the markings, rather they are after the fashion of a craftsman leaving some particular symbol on his work to identify it as such. Similar to an artst's signature on a painting. The runes in question here could identify one Dwarf, one family or even kingdom of Dwarves, or anything in between an individual and a kingdom.

Hraln scratches his beard, "Well, I guess we can keep going then," he says. "Just make sure you glance down every so often to make sure you're not bowling over some dwarf..."

The party continues onward. The number of side-passages and cross-passages increases, and all of these passages are in much better repair and more cunningly crafted than the run-of-the-mill underdark passages you were traversing before.

Perception checks, everyone!

Johann looks at what the others are gawking at, as well as down, to find any possible threats. . . . .

"We appear to be entering a better maintained district." The wizard unconsciously uses one of his simplest magics to spiff up his appearance casting off the dust and muck of the Underdark like an old cloak.

Hraln, Eldran, and Yurei are almost sure that they hear singing in the distance. Yes, once Hraln and Eldran speak up, Yurei confirms that they hear Dwarvish voices. Among the three who hear, only Yurei is able to understand the words. It's a marching song about patrolling the perimeter of one's territory to keep the womenfolk and weefolk safe.
