Leif's "Revenge of the Giants" [4E] [IC 01]

Sariel, LG eladrin warlord 12 (battle captain)

"Thank you anyway." She said. "Please let us or the Lord Warden know if you recall anything further or come across something new." And after exchanging goodbyes, she returned to the Lord Warden's manor.

She told Heise (and the Lord Warden and his Vizier, if they chose to listen in) what she had learned while she set up to cast the Detect Secret Doors ritual.

With the ritual's power aiding her searching, she examines the indicated area again, certain she'll find any hidden doors now.
OOC: That should give her a 49 on her perception check to find any secret doors in her line of sight. I don't know if what we're looking for will qualify as a secret door, but if it does, I think that ought to be good enough. Scratch 25 gp worth of ritual components.

Back at the Circle

Sariel now sees that the center of the teleportation circle glows expectantly as if it awaits final completion by an arcane focus, and also she sees a hidden panel in the wall facing the circle.

Back at the Circle

Behind the hidden panel Sariel sees a bejeweled object like a finial of some kind -- it has three gem-like stones at its heart, one blue, one red and one yellow, with smaller gem-like stones of purple, green, and orange seeming to 'radiate' outward from the center. The bottom of the finial is an octagonal projection that is flat on the bottom. Looking back at the circle in the floor, the adventurers see that there is a shallow octagonal depression, almost like a socket, in the center of the circle that, for some reason, none of them had noticed before. Beside the bejeweled object is a carefully folded sheet of vellum.

I'm almost sure what this is. Sariel thinks, removing the bejeweled object and the sheet of vellum. She unfolds the sheet and examines it, expecting to see a ritual formula on it.

Sariel sees a diagram showing the finial pleaced in the center of the circle, and below the diagram is a ritual formula.

OOC: Insight, hafrogman sorry for the extended sequence of pretty much back and forth between Sariel and the GM, but she's the only ritualist we've got and the knowledge-skill girl...
Not to wanting to accidentally activate anything, Sariel carefully examines the ritual trying to determine what it does.

Heise peers into the panel with Sariel and takes a look at the "key". As the eladrin pulls out the elaborate object, he turns to Durn and shrugs.

"At least we were looking in the right spot."

Then he pauses for a moment as he watches Sariel consider the parchment.

"Out of curiosity . . . if this ritual is the path to Argent. What happens if the circle at the other end isn't in quite as good condition?"

drothgery, hafrogman is showing you how to keep the others involved here -- just have Sariel speak to them, tell them what she is thinking and ask for their opinions.

"It should either work or not, if it works like the linked portal ritual I usually use." She says. "If the other end is too damaged, we'd just be out the ritual components and wouldn't go anywhere. Though I'm not sure I want to try casting this without a good idea of what it's supposed to do..."
OOC: There's actually nothing in the text of Linked Portal about what happens if the circle you're trying to teleport to is damaged; Sariel should know, though...
