OOC: Yeah, leaving the Underdark puts you in Quail Valley, by default. I actually meant where in Quail Valley? Pembrose? Bostwick? Whirtlestaffs? Twain, presumably to visit Magus Crus? The Abadoned (ex- hobgoblin) Keep to which the party now holds the Deed? Elsewhere?

You might want to think about investing some of your treasure toward recruiting a crew to improve the road to your keep, which would increase traffic to it, possibly leading to settlers, more population, maybe businesses, a growing tax base for the Lords of the Keep (The Party), etc. You might really want to think about NAMING the keep, too.

Sorry, I'm falling back to my original plan for this to be a LONG-TERM game, but it absolutely doesn't have to be one.

FYI: The D&D Next (5E) DMG appears once again to have the resources to support character strongholds and so forth, like 1E. Not sure if 2E or 3.XE did or not. I don't think I remember seeing that in 4E.

When we decide which way we'll go with the game, I'll open a new (5th) IC thread, and be sure that it's back in the correct Forum!

Leaving the Underdark

So am I correct in surmising that you adventurers will make a stop in Pembrose, the closest town, before heading anywhere else?

Pembrose or Bust!

The wizards emerge from the Underdark and begin trudging back to Pembrose.

At the confluence of the Wren and Quail Rivers, you come upon the settlement of Pembrose. With a population of 600+, this is by far the largest town in Quail Valley. Up ahead, you see the sign of The Lonesome Drake inn and tavern.

"OK, so I think the best thing to do is get back to Whirtlestaff's, but how? We can travel back the way we got here originally, see if we can buy a scroll of Teleport, or see of Magus Crus can send us home. Any other ideas?"

Cappizzio emerges from the depths of the earth, stretches, and waves his hands all over his person. Dirt and grime falls off to the ground, colors brighten, whites whiten and his the sm3ll of earth blood and death fall off of his and are replaced with a scent of amber musk.

"Well, I seem to forgotten how long it took us to get here from there. Do you remember? I like the idea of the most direct route personally."

He shades his eyes as he looks around him to see if there is anything lurking about.

"It would be a rather long walk. I think we should discuss it over a meal and a glass of wine." She nods at the Lonesome Drake. She then wrinkles her nose. "and I will gladly pay for all of us to have a bath if yon establishment can provide it."
