What to do next?

There is still the outstanding activity of re-re-taking the abandoned fortress, and preparing it to serve as your party stronghold....

Assuming, as seems reasonable, that something has moved into the fortress after you guys cleaned it out the last timne and just left it standing vacant.

That would seem to be a more reasonable activity.
