Professors of Whirtlestaff's concerned with conjuration of Spirit Whisperers

There are three who are more involved than the rest in summoning Spirit Whisperers.

They are:

"Mad" Marcus Mirabeil - "Mad" Marcus would be by a longshot the most accomplished conjurer known for his work with Spirit Whisperers, if not for his imperfect grasp on reality. "Mad" Marcus clearly knows the most (far and away) about Spirit Whisperers from both study and experience, but getting it out of him is, well, an adventure in itself.

Durwood Wanderlust - The youngest full professor at the Whirtlestaff's, his life's work is to create a conjuration that can call up a being who can tell him what happened to his father who disappeared while traveling by sea. As such he has summoned some of everything, and mostly done it well. "Very well," he would say. He's extremely bright, but a bit of a fop and a little stuck on himself.

Albemarle Subrosenstein - 57-year-old human sporting a long white and brown mustache and beard. His mustache mostly stands up, the hair poking stright out from his face. He knows the least of the three about the category of Spirit Whisperers, but his specialty is Truenames, so those Spirit Whisperers that he does know, he knows, shall we say, intimately, heh heh heh. Although he has the narrowest range of knowledge of the three, he may know more than the other two about the specific attributes of the Spirit Whisperer breed.

Pela Dun Backstory

Pela is searching for her father. Like all changelings, her mother was a hag. Her mother was an annis hag. She remembers nothng about her father. All she thinks she knows about her father is that she had six handkerchiefs, each with partial stitching of a seal, in her pocket from when she was a small child. She hopes that one of them belongs to her father's family. She's not sure how she will prove paternity even if she finds his house.

Her mother decided when Pela was four to dump her on the steps of a monastery. At that age, she was starting to help her mother's victims escape. The monks sent her to the elven wizard school when she showed signed of magical ability. The elven wizards didn't catch on to her spirit whisperer ability at first. But they finally realized that she was very different and slowly pushed her out of the school as soon as they could argue that she, as an orphan, could take care of herself.
OOC: For DM review: The Elven wizard school is small, like a private university, with a wizard branch and a sorcerer branch. The Elves don't like to let witches or shaman research there. Witches and shaman have their own small Elven schools with little cross-over. The Elven wizard school is also known for non-human racial magic items. Alternatively, the Elves allow wizards, sorcerers, and witches but not shaman to be students. Alternatively, it's just that spirit whisperers are rare and no professors there research their powers.
Because spirit whisperers are similar to both witches and shaman, Pela has papers requesting a transfer to Whirtlestaff's for advanced training. Another reason she was forced to change schools is that she killed a fellow student using her Brain Drain Spirit Hex. Pela was trying to clear another student accused of stealing a ring. She used her Brain Drain Spirit Hex to see if this one student knew who took the ring. He died under her mental attack (3d4 damage). She only escaped punishment for using what she saw in his mind to show that a gang of students were stealing from professors and students. Pela had to use her Monstrous Insight ability to fight off another student who tried to kill her to protect the gang. She has been warned by several professors not to return to the Elven wizard school by herself due to friends of the gang.
OOC: For DM review: Whirtlestaff's Wizards Academy is like a large public university with branches for all types of magic-users. Alternatively, WWA is like an elite private university with areas of unusual expertise, including spirit whisperers, exploring questions like: Why are some familiars also spirit animals? Why do some spirits link to spirit animal familiars? Can you change the spirit link?

Pela dresses in light flowing outfits. She files and paints her fingernails to hide the fact she can kill with them. Many changelings have different colored eyes. Pela's are both blue, but in bright light one can see that the left eye is lighter than the right eye.

Pela would arrive at Pembrose with a small caravan of merchants travelling up the river. She would have traded her skills as a lookout and knowledge of a wide variety of monsters, humanoids, and nature for passage.

Lou, you choose the "why's" about the Elven Academy of Arcane Arts, and why Pela didn't work out there. So I guess Pela's father was an Elf? Mom must've had some potent mojo to bed an elf, who's almost immune to charms. If dear old dad was human, why was Pela drawn to study with elves, and moe importantly, why did they accept her? The EAAA is probably the greatest football rival of Whirtlestaff's (WWA). I don't imagine the EAAA has much of an offensive line, but they should routinely have players with an astronomical QB rating. You can assume the letter got you into WWA and that you either completed your studies or almost so. After completion, or on a break, she took a small vaycay to Pembrose, and there heard about a cabal of wizards and their retinue who are rehabilitating a keep not far beyond civilization that they liberated from its hobgoblin usurpers. Fill in as many or as few details as you wish. There are plenty of hooks for me to hang my DM-Cape on already, but if you want to give me a couple dozen more I won't complain.

the polital relations of rival academies

And as the EAAA are rivals of the WWA, the EAAA calls Whirtlestaff's wizards academy the Whirtlestaff's wankers academy, who in turn call the EAAA the Elvin All-around A$$hole's academy

I wasn't thinking Pela's father was an elf. I was thinking that she was dumped near the EAAA. Even so, annis hags don't charm, they use Alter Self to convince their victims to trust them.

The EAAA was asked to take her by the monks who rescued her. I was looking for a different magic school for her to start at, other than WWA. Is there another small magic school around for her to have started at?

At level 6, Pela should be completed with her major studies. She mostly just gets new spells each level, new feats at odd levels, and Spirit Hexes at levels 10 and 15. She and her greensting scorpion buddy George are besties for life!

Pela took her trip to Pembrose to investigate the liberated keep and see if any of her handkerchiefs match the symbols used there.

Pela needs to finish her equipment. How about a special magic item from her mother. Perhaps a necklace that randomly raises CHA 2, 4, or 6 points for 10 minutes a day? It would allow Pela to use her hex extra times a day in emergencies.

Ok. that works for me. No other school of magic besides the EAAA and WWA, assuming your creation of the EAAA is still valid. Unless you want to make up another one.
