From a cost perspective I wonder how much producing videos to show for free on YouTube in 2023 costs versus designing and paying for print adds in magazines comics ect did in 1993? Do companies save money or is it just a shift in how it is spent?
Digital advertising is vastly cheaper than print. The cratering of the print newspaper (especially local newspapers) and magazine business is in large part due to their revenue getting chopped by up to 90% transitioning from print to digital ad revenue.

Print ad space is finite -- there are only so many places to put an ad in a magazine or newspaper -- while internet advertising is effectively infinite, and the law of supply and demand has done its thing.

This is actually digital marketing, rather than advertising, and probably a touch more expensive than an ad (there are probably a half dozen people sinking manhours into making these videos), but it's still very, very cheap.

The only "flaws" are with the person running the game, as 2e had massive information and detail yet left room for the DM to expand and add his own take. I stand by my original statement in that 5e version is a more simplified version to handhold or as you said "direct pointing" those who need help in running a game. First-time DMs or those who can't handle the amount of information provided in earlier materials.
Ive also said this. If you want to go deep, lots has come before

Agreed! Except for those like me who have none of the old books!
well, nothing is really unattainable now in the era of POD or pdfs. But if you don't have the $$$ for the PS 2e boxed sets on e-bay, you're outta luck. Best maps of PS ever! My next campaign will be Spalljammer-Planescape campaign (e.g. my kitchen sink campaign).

Sure, I know I can get the books, I just don't have a desire to at the moment. However, get the new books might inspire me to get the old. Though to be honest I would rather read a wiki than Cant.

Its kind of weird that the campaign I ran for my home d&d group was spelljammer/planescape (I have many fond memories of being in locked down from the pandemic and running these games over discord). It was doing my best to adapt 2e PS to 5e as well as SJ was really challenging. I love the FR, it was my Greyhawk. That said, I discovered PS when I got back into dnd with 5e and after I started collecting the PS boxed sets through e-bay. Finally WotC is giving us PS after my clamoring with every UA survey.
