Let's say D&D ceases to exist...what do you play?

If the current line simply ceased (Pathfinder for me, not likely to give 4e another go) I'd still have enough to play for years and never notice.

However, if all back stock (including my own) vanished, I'd probably play Savage Worlds and/or World of Darkness. Which is kinda funny as Savage Worlds does D&D quite well.

I am surprised at the number of responses that say Savage Worlds. Not surprised that people chose it, b/c that is exactly what I would play, but surprised, b/c until this year I really knew nothing about it. I have been playing d&d for 20 something years, but lived in a bit of a rpg bubble. I figured that b/c I had little time to play, I didn't want to learn new systems. I have spent a lot of years on Enworld too and still didn't 'see' a lot of Savage Worlds. Obviously I have been reading through dnd filtered glasses due to all the awards it has won, inc Ennies. The cover of Deadlands was about all I could recall.

Then I got a hold of the Creation of Savage Worlds document...and now we have bought a heap and obviously that would be my choice. Fantasy Savage Worlds, Deadlands and I would love to give Weird War 2 a go and Cthulu.

As it is allowed I am sure we would get our Star Wars Saga going again (and if the system isn;t allowed, I did like the old d6 version too - one of the very few non-dnd rpgs I have played a fair bit of).

There really is more than enough choice...

- Shadowrun
- HERO
- Mutants & Masterminds
- Savage Worlds
- Cortex
- WFRP3
- ...

Star Wars Saga Edition

If that's considered too close to D&D, then --

Call of Cthulhu d20 + Delta Green setting

If that's still considered too close to D&D, then --

Dresden Files RPG, just because I like the setting (not sold on the Fate system)

Don't know. There isn't another fantasy RPG that I actually like.

My regualr Call of Cthulhu, All Flesh or Vampire: the Requiem games wouldn't be affected, but I honestly don't know what I would replace D&D with.

Savage Worlds would be my go-to game. It practically is already. I just find my D&D minis so darn handy that I can;' give up d20. In fact, the last game I ran was a D&D minis skirmish campaign that had a lot of RPG elements imported. The game we're currently playing is Realms of Cthulhu for Savage Worlds, though.

Rifts would probably get off the shelf, too; especially since I have Machinations of Doom waiting to be run. I know it's wonky, but I still think it is fun.

I would really lament the loss of Omega World and 4e Gamma World, though. Those are 2 games I would run in a second. In fact, I already had my players roll up new GW characters. So, it is next in line for us, I think. OW is probably my best chance to use my D&D minis and all my Star Wars minis for something in an RPG, and I really do want to do that.

I'd start running Star Wars SAGA Edition regularly,

Continue to play Shadowrun as much as my GM can run it,

and start pulling out the old Marvel Super Heroes FASERIP system.

I am one of those who has pretty much only played D&D since my "experimental" days when I was younger.

So if D&D was gone, I'd either play MMORPG's or Savage Worlds.

EDIT: I am also noticing a LOT of people responding to this thread mention Savage Worlds.... hopefully Pinnacle doesn't get any crazy ideas involving a paper-eating virus and a roll of stamps.
