Let's say D&D ceases to exist...what do you play?

Without D&D i would probably still be playing OWoD, or Earthdawn, my group fantasy game of choice.

I love GURPS and Shadowrun but i dont think i could find even 2 other players to make a group.

Because Pathfinder is a variant of 3.5E D&D with all of the same tropes - D&D races, classes, monsters, monsters, magic items, etc, whereas Star Wars is a science fiction (or science fantasy) game with completely different tropes. The division seems pretty clear to me.

As for your last sentence, I'm not sure I agree with you but that is an entirely different conversation. You could very easily change "Pathfinder" to "D&D 3.75" and not miss a beat.

Maybe it's not as clear as you'd like it to be or maybe I'm being nitpicky. Either way the argument could me made that you're talking about the brand, in which case Pathfinder definitively NOT D&D. Or you're talking about core assumptions of the D20 system, in which while Star Wars doesn't have magic items, it does have Races, Classes and Monsters. There are other games which ARE NOT D&D which have these tropes as well.

As for my last sentence, To each his own, but for me? Pathfinder IS more akin to D&D 4 than 3.75. But I see how other people would see it how you do.

Okay, I'm done as I dont want to derail this thread.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Pathfinder
Star Wars (Saga Edition)
Hunter: the Vigil
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (2nd Edition)
Savage Worlds

or I'd homebrew up my own system.

Actually, that's not too far from now. The only difference is that we don't currently play Pathfinder, playing either 3.5e or 4e instead.

Folks, I've removed the political reference from the OP. It was completely unnecessary for the purposes of the question this thread poses. No need to discuss it further.

I think that if D&D books disppeared from my shelves then I would be living in D&D, that or the matrix. My next step would be to find out which.
I would for rpg purposes hunt down copies of TFT on eBay and meanwhile try Savage Worlds or maybe breakout my old copy of WHFRP 1.

The groups I've played with have always played other games, so D&D wouldn't be missed all that much. What would take over for it? The original Palladium FRPG in one group, GURPS in another, TFT in yet another. (Bearing in mind that all three groups [have] share[ed] at least some players.) And, of course, I'd introduce my latest homebrew for them all.

D&D is already dead to me, cuz I discovered Savage Worlds (well, I'll play D&D, but not DM it anymore). I have my eye on Dragon Age, but it is not there yet.

I think the data indicates that the overwhelming majority of players over the history of the hobby are like me. When they stop playing D&D, they stop roleplaying.

I've already got more board and card games than I could ever get burned out on in one lifetime, so that'd be my gaming fix.

As, indeed, it has before. When my group takes a break from D&D, there's no shortage of other games. They're just not RPGs.

Things would carry on much as they are for me; In terms of sessions played, D&D only forms a small part (the RPG club I attend is a good place to sample a wide range of games)

There are people who seem to play nothing but D&D in the club.. It seems peculiar to me. In a campaign at someone's house, I could see sticking to what you know, but in a club with relatively short slots, varying GMs and a panoply of games to join?
