While Gandalf was clearly one of the characters depicted, many people wondered who the others were. According to Cubicle 7 "The cover scene is titled “The Coming of Boldog” and depicts Gandalf along with our iconic party — a Hobbit of the Shire, a Beorning, a Dwarf of the Lonely Mountain, an Elf of Mirkwood, a Rider of Rohan, and a Man of Minas Tirith — fleeing from a horde of orcs and a terrifying cave troll. “The Coming of Boldog” will be a free adventure that will be released alongside the core rules so that you and your Company can begin your adventures straight away."

The whole idea of playing a Middle-Earth game is to explore the setting with your own taste, aesthetics, and ideas. Nothing you come up with will ever be canon. It can maybe fit in canon, but it is still not canon. By abandoning the desire to be strictly canon, and instead by capturing the themes and feel of the setting, you'll probably have a better time. Of course, for some people this means they have to try to be as canon as possible, which is ok. But its also good to recognize that not everyone needs to be as canon as possible, even the official product--it just needs to transmit enough feel for the table to somehow get the other half from their own imaginations.
