It is getting really difficult to track all of them.

These Observers seem not to fit the previous characterization of the Observers...

Yah, I found the jump forward and alternate, alternate story line in this one to be a bit jarring.

Am I misremembering, or has there not been a scene where the Fringe team gets locked in amber?

Oh, and for some reason the episode now has the Halo ship name In Amber Clad stuck in my head.

It's the last season so they're rushing the ending.

Although it's stupid because it just doesn't fit with anything the Observers have done up until this point, as an entirely separate (from the Fringe series) idea, it's actually kinda cool.

But it's not separate from the Fringe series and so I'm just left shaking my head. The 'twists' in this series have been stupid and only served to lessen the series rather than heighten any enjoyment of it.

Fringe was never a must-watch for me, but since the start of this season it's become a, "Eh, if I can be bothered."

Sorry, grammatical error, it's PREPARING for the last season.

Apparently, assuming Fox approves it, the series is gearing up for it's final season which will be a shortened fifth season. The important thing to note here is SHORTENED, which means they have to prepare for it in this season.

I assumed this episode was one of those one-shots that has no impact on the story as a whole. Or to put it another way, back to what we expected next week, more fighting the guy with the scarred face.

William Bell was apparently alive when the Fringe team self-ambered

. Therefore the observers "not acting like themselves" is a matter of the entire story, including their behavior, taking place in a completely different dimension/universe.

Could be. But doesn't have to be:

The dialog between Astrid and Walter seems to suggest he did something to Olivia.
It could just be that Belly found a way to regain his body - killing Olivia in the process.
