If you don't want the Divine feats, then drop Pal 4 and go P3 / F2 / K2 / DC5 and you pick up Weapon Spec. BAB is 10, so you lose your third attack, saves are 16 6 12, Spells are 3 2 2 1 0. Assuming you have +4 in boosters to give you Cha 20, you get a 5th level spell.

Cleric/Crusader of Wee Jas moving into Ruby Knight Vindicator. mmmm.
Yep,
Oddly, I've been working on this exact build (12th level Cleric/Crusader/RKV) I'm away from my books but...

Best bet appears to be:

Crusader4/Cleric2/RKV6 as follows (order matters, L is cLeric) LLCCCRRRRRCR, It gets you a 6th level stance (I recommend the one that lets you and a partner heal 4hps every time either of you hit).

Feats:
1: Weapon focus
3:practiced spell caster
6: The feat that lets you start with 3 manouvers at the start of the fight
9: The feat that lets you heal when you regain manouvers (darn handy with the RKV ability that lets you regain a manouver as a swift action with a turn usage).

As a human you might also want to take Sheild specialization and the feat that lets you add your shield bonus to your touch AC and certain other things (grapple, bull rush etc.)

I'd suggest the magic and mind domains.

You should have a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th level manouvers. The rallying stike (3d6+11 healing to everyone if you hit), the "good" charge ability (+6d8 damage, 10/- DR if you hit on the charge vs. Evil).

For stances the one that adds damage to everyone who is flanking (+5 for this build), the one that adds for a charge (+11 for this build). The last stance might be the stone one that adds to grapple etc.

Spells should be buffs and out-of-combat heals mostly. 6th level caster with 10th level caster ability. Exactly how to play this depends on how your DM does spells with weapons.

Sorry I can't do any more of the build from here... :)

Okay, me and my buddy rolled our stats today for his and my character. I got: 20, 17, 16, 16, 11, 5. It was 3d10, drop the lowest, arrange as desired.

The Divine Crusader or Hospitalier route sounds interesting. I'll be looking into that tonight with some intrest :)

Crusader from Tome of Battle. That pretty much *is* a tank/healer.
As I said in the Op, no sub-systems please, ie ToB, MoI, etc. Thanks for the offer though!

cheers,

I'd not call ToB a sub-system. Broken perhaps, but not a sub-system.

Also a F2/R2/Duskblade1/Pious Templar 7 is pretty darn good. You need practiced spellcaster to make it a reasonable caster, but the full BAB is nice and the Paladin spell list can be very very handy.

Tomatoe, tomahtoe. In any case, no one owns ToB: Bo9S, so it's out in any case :p

Pious Templar, eh. I remember that class. A bit overpowered, but good point. I will have to delve deeper into my books now...

I was workin' on a replacement 8th level character the other day, but was a few levels short of getting it just right. It could be fun.

Half-ogre w/ one level of barbarian using whirling frenzy rage variant from UA. (Grants an extra attack at -2 while raging). Rest of his levels in fighter. Or use ranger levels for TWF combat style.

Feats:

TWF
Weapon focus (light mace)
combat reflexes
combat expertise
improved trip
Knockdown (divine srd)
Lightning maces (comp war) (gives an extra attack on a threat)
&
improved crit
Extra rage
TW feats...

Natural reach, lots of extra attacks, lots of AoOs, and free trip attempts on every almost attack.

He would of course have thundering, shocking maces to stick with the theme. :D

Why not 2 levels barbarian? Can't count how often that Uncanny Dodge saved me from surprise round sneak attacks (and the full attack action in the first round afterwards hurt even more).

And for these maces I propose the light maces combat style from Complete Warrior.

I am a little surprised that full casters are not getting more interest. At these levels there is not really all that much that beats one as you are just moving into the levels where these classes are pretty amazing.

Druid 12, for example, is pretty hard to make underpowered especially if you have access to enough books to pick up the weak core spell list. It tanks well (especially with the fully expendable DIre Bear that will be following it around) and full divine casters definitely heal as well.

Alternatively, why not a Cleric/prestige class option designed to be sickening? I like Contemplative but that is a matter of taste. If Complete Mage is an option, Divine Magician can make this even nastier.

Well, in my original post, I was requesting a fucs more on melee characters with some backup healing powers - thus full casters are really not what I'm looking for. And yes, while I'm full aware that druids and clerics are 'teh best!', I want more sword and less sorcerery.

I'm really considering that fighter/monk/pally/divine crusader combo. Maybe I could convince the DM to run gestalt to really use and abuse his campaign - then it'd be a pally/favoured soul all teh way! Or fighter/knight. Or barbarian/ranger. Oh well, maybe next time ;)
