D&D 5E Level 20, no class higher than 12 (edited!)

not really much outside the feat, but here is the list;

barbarian: +1 rage use
druid: moon CR4 instead CR3 wildshape, wildshape duration
monk: +1 focus pt, +5 slow fall reduction
sorcerer: +1 sorcery pt
warlock: +1 invocation
wizard: +2 spell in spellbook

warlocks and moon druids are clear winners here
Certainly nothing that would make level 12 as a must-take choice, which is my primary concern.

My gut feeling is that the most common choices will be 11/9, 11/5/4, 10/10 (if the level 10 feature is good, as it often is), or 11-12/bunch of dips.

I think for 2-classes you'll see a fair number of 11/9 splits. IME what you gain at 11th or 9th is better than the extra feat you'd get by taking 12th level, so it certainly won't hurt if you leave it as an option.

I know for the skill-master build I would certainly grab Rogue 11 for Reliable Talent if I was playing. ;)

Me too! Something like Swashbuckler Rogue 11/Swords Bard 9 would make for a really fun versatile duelist type character.

A Paladin (Ancients)/Druid (Moon) would be impressive and thematic with the combination of smiting while in wild shape (since the attacks of beasts are melee weapon it should be possible RAW). You can heal yourself via Lay on Hands or spellslots via Combat Wild Shape.

Of course, I don't know if 11 Paladin would be worth the always on IDS combated to Elemental Wild Shape for Druid 10. That's a toughie...

The 11/9 vs. 10/10 issue would also determine if you are a 14th level caster vs. the 15th level caster with 8th level slots...

I like the Elemental Wild Shape just because it feels more "paladin-ish" to change into a humanoid angel of fire.

10/10 vs 9/11 is Aura of Courage versus a 6th level spell, for which I think I would prefer the 6th level spell but I can see arguments the other way.

If were using the 2024 classes, I would definitely go paladin 11/druid 9, since Elemental Wild Shape is gone.

Aura of Courage is not a big deal IME, so you're right. I doubt I would do an even 10/10 split.

Either 11/9 with IDS or 9/11 with elemental wild shape and 6th-level spell... either way definitely has its' strengths, but given some of the good 6th-level spells for Druid, I think I would also prefer the elemental wild shape and 6th-level spell over IDS on every attack, the extra 6 points of damage (or so) per round isn't worth it.

Just for fun, I put together the 11 paladin/9 druid on DnD Beyond. With 16 Con, 20 Cha, War Caster feat, and Resilient (Con) , the character has a +17 bonus to concentration checks while in Wild Shape.

My last multiclass character was Ranger 8/ Druid (stars) 10 when we ended the campaign. I was using Dragon aspect to make it almost impossible to fail a concentration roll. My main spell was Summon Beastial Spirit. Between that and my own three attacks per round I was dealing out a lot of damage.

How are you +17??

+6 (proficiency) + 3 (CON 16) + 5 (CHA 20 via paladin) is +14. Where are you picking up another +3? Magic items?

Even the CR 3 beasts have equal or lower CON. An Earth Elemental is CON 20, but you only have Druid 9 and even then it would be +16...

The 2024 moon druid had a feature that gives them Wis mod to concentration checks while wild shaped.
