If you want it be quick but memorable pit them against the 8th level ogre and give them some quick way of finishing him off that'll leave them feeling satisfied.

Hey, Rel, are there any rules for lava? I can't seem to find any?

Although I am in NO WAY affiliated with them, I think these guys put out a pretty solid set of rules.

Overkill? Bah! My players learn to run when they have to.

Seriously though, I agree with most of the folks that posted here. The encounter looks like a good one. I was running a remake of the Caves of Chaos and my group of four 2nd level PC's stumbled into the ogre cave and took him (and a pair of goblin warriors I added) fairly easily.
