This is an ‘advanced’ version of the 5E ruleset, presented as a hardcover standalone game. It adds more customization and depth to the game. Basically, it’s a ‘crunchier’ version of 5th Edition. It's still the game you know and love. We love it too! All your 5E books will be compatible with this new game.

We already have a list of what we want to include in Level Up, although this list is not yet final We’ll be using surveys to adjust that list. We hope to include a fully developed exploration pillar, flexible character choices at each level, a new approach to heritage, martial maneuvers, a ‘cinematic/gritty’ toggle, spell-less ranger and warlord, and followers and strongholds, and more. Keep an eye out for the surveys!

We are also recruiting a diverse team of expert 5th Edition writers. We’ll have more news on that soon.

The dark one :)
Count the dark force on your side for this one ^^ (I only started playing 5th by the end of 2019, mostly playing 3.5 and 4th before that yes as you see I'm loving all of them!)

Is the basic idea a no-magic Ranger, or just a spell-less Ranger, because the two ideas are quite different. A ranger about 10% more supernatural than a monk, I’m all for. A fully mundane ranger seems...wholly redundant.
If the fighter/rogue are more flexible I definitely think you are right about redundancy
If it includes things where Fighters actually hit better than others (in otherwords, more like expertise for weapons for Martials),
The battlemaster has a maneuver that basically does that. If there were options to trade out extra attacks to scan for openings which enabled much more frequent use of maneuvers then the idea is covered rather well. In effect the level 5 or better fighter could then do it tactically where he needed higher accuracy as a choice.

I feel a lot of things including Warlord/Magicless Ranger/4e style Defender(more interesting than the cavalier) can be better achieved by improving the fighter/rogue flexibility.

I'm really interested to see where this goes. I'm always in favor of more options and resources, even if they're not all ones I personally want to use.

One thing I'm skeptical about is how well the backwards-compatibility will work. If the new book changes too many of the baseline assumptions about 5e, then old adventures won't be playable without significant conversion work from the DM. But if the book doesn't change the basics, then what is the point of making this a standalone system, rather than a list of optional tactical modules and class options?
