Does anyone have a set of experience tables or formulas to calculate what experience points are for each level up? I havent found any in my dungon masters guide and don't trust the tables I see in baldure's gate Tales of the sword coast.

It is in the Players handbook. THe formaula is current level x1000 is what you need for next level so it looks like

1000
3000
6000
10 000
15 000
21 000

And on and on and on

To gain a level? It's in the beginning of the Classes chapter of the Player's Handbook.

thanks a lot. before I only had baldures gate and the old pool of radiance for referance.

THose games are second edition were all classes had their own XP table, now a days everyone uses the same one

Just to add to Crothian's post for clarity:

1000 = 1x1000
3000 = 1x1000 + 2x1000
6000 = 1x1000 + 2x1000 + 3x1000
10 000 = 1x1000 + 2x1000 + 3x1000 + 4x1000
15 000 = 1x1000 + 2x1000 + 3x1000 + 4x1000 + 5x1000
21 000 = 1x1000 + 2x1000 + 3x1000 + 4x1000 + 5x1000 + 6x1000

and so on ...

Maybe this wasn't really necessary, but I'm picky sometimes.

Yeah. To calculate the total minimum xp for a given level, you can also use this formula: 1,000*level*(level-1)/2

Or 500*level*(level-1), of course.

E.g., the XP needed for level 17:

500*17*(17-1) = 500*17*16 = 500*272 = 136,000

Welcome to the boards, borg!

And that's only one of the countless improvements they made. Another is that there are almost no alignment restrictions on classes, no racial restrictions at all (so dwarf wizard, elf bard, or halfling ranger are possible now), no ability restrictions either (you can have a fighter with Str 8 and con 9, for example), and multiclassing has been changed (whenever you level up, you can take either another level in your old class, or start a new class. No splitting 50/50 or only one change without going back ever, like in the old versions).
