LF Video Game Recommendations

To the contrary, Mass Effect 1 was produced as a Xbox 360 Exclusive for nearly its first year. The port of the title to the PC was not even done by BioWare and was farmed out to a third party developer. As a consequence, Mass Effect 1's PC version is a bug-ridden piece of crap compared to the 360 version (same applies to Jade Empire, for that matter).

More like six months and bug ridden piece of crap couldn't be further from the truth. While I know I had an issue or two, there weren't a lot and certainly nothing game breaking.

I'd say "I disagree", but no. This isn't a matter of opinion; it's objective fact and caused a shift to bargain bin pricing on ME1 for PC significantly ahead of schedule. "Works fine here" isn't QA.

The freeze up/crash posts on the BioWare forums were massively long going on for 30-40 pages each and many were ultimately locked without resolution. BioWare didn't do the PC port conversion and it was not responsible for final patching. There were several lock-up/crash bugs that were never fixed by Demiurge and remain in the code after patching.

The problems with the conversion on ME1 caused BioWare to keep the port of ME2 to PC an in-house affair.

As I later mentioned, I had thought it wasn't on the console because my housemate said he couldn't get it for his (after I recommended it to him) and I believed him.

I came to the Mass Effect game pretty late so by the time I played it, most of the bugs you're talking about must've been ironed out. I'm very picky about buggy programs and will flat-out refuse to play a game if I feel it's too buggy. I consider ME1 to be one of the least buggy and most stable games I've ever played. It's one of the reasons I liked it. And I've logged 400 hours of play in ME1 (yes, I like it that much) so... *shrug*

Oh, and probably a good 100 hours of that was with cheats and hacks enabled and it was STILL solid.

Anyway, I got Assassin's Creed 1 & 2 and am enjoying them right now. I can't see myself playing through either more than once, though, so I'll move on to some of the other recommendations in this thread. Thanks for all the advice guys!

No, but if it's as bad as you say, I should have run into more problems than I did. As it was, I didn't run into any more problems than I have with any PC game I've played.

Wow, I never even heard about any of that, but like Kzach it took me a while to get around to playing it and my friends who have played did so after me.

If your room-mate had a PS3 he was telling the truth re: Mass Effect 1. ME2, otoh,is available on all platforms.

There is a lot of potential gameplay changes and choices you might make which can alter some gameplay, so it's possible to replay (especially AC II). But yeah, AC isn't Oblivion, say, in terms of replay value. On that I would most definitely agree.

If a long game appeals and you are looking for replay value for the PC, give Sacred 2 a try. It definitely has its moments. In terms of replay value, I would rate it at the high end.

AC2 may not have a lot of replay value, but there is a lot to do, so you can dump a lot of time into that one play through (I spent about forty hours on it and I didn't even collect everything).

I quite like a little game called Arcanum: Of steamworks and Magik obscura. I warn that the graphics aren't the greatest and there are a few glitches. The world is very unique and the story is completely engrossing. The sandbox feel is fantastic and there are many things you can do that have an effect on the whole universe.

I'll 2nd Sacred 2. I picked it up on a lark because I was really in the mood for a Diablo/Champions of Norrath-style slash, loot, and level game for my PS3.

The setting is delightfully batty, the environments and well done, and interesting in their own right -- I loved exploring in this game, even though it barely has anything worth calling a 'plot', at least compared to titles like Mass Effect. Also, setting waves of monsters on fire never gets old.

Played through it twice, even though I'm the kind of guy who leaves most games unfinished.

And you can't go wrong with Fallout 3. I resisted playing it for a long time, and now I'm loving skulking through bombed-out DC delivering hope, ninja-style.
