Completely forgot that it was happening, actually.

The original Live Aid was special because it was ground-breaking, and it was focused on something very much in the forefront of the news and people's minds. Live 8, by comparison? By it's very name it tells you that it isn't new anymore. And it isn't topical. Maybe it'll raise money, but I don't think it's particularly momentous.

yeah, but pink floyd got back together for this one - now that is momentous. ;)

Toronto got mad when they found out that they weren't hosting the Canada one. Man, I heard all these politicians and civilians saying that they were insulted because they wanted to make a concert that was supposed to be all about making poverty history into an "All about Toronto," like the "SARS-Stock" that happened a year or two ago with the Rolling Stones.

Well they're not aiming to raise $ from the general public. They're trying to get the G8 leaders to deliver an additional US$25 billion in aid to Africa. Will it work? No idea...

One of the concerts was in Moscow, but frankly, it sort of blew by without being noticed much. THis sort of event isn't as topical here as in the UK for example.

I think the world is too apathatic to care anymore. Better them than us. I don't feel this way but I think many in the world do. Also I think it is a case of we have our own problems to deal with. The US and its "Allies" are at war with the dictator of the week. I doubt the concert will achieve its goal but I really hope it does.

Eh. Even if they did raise the amount of aid, it all gets embezzled anyway - it never ends up in the hands of the poor people, but in the hands ruling elites....(who have a special name, which I forget, but is based on Mercedes Benz, because they buy them.)

And when there is trouble, like in Darfur where there's a genocide going on, or in Zimbabwe, where Mugabe is basically going crazy, razing homes and farms, the world twiddles it's thumb because of people like Aeson who make comments like "The US and its "Allies" are at war with the dictator of the week."

Try to make the world a better place, and you get hated for it. Don't try it, and you still get hated. (or hate yourself, in Aeson's case, apparently)

(This is probably a good thread to close..., since by it's nature it's political...)
