Your frustration doesn't make it okay to cal lthem idiots.

You are, right now in your own less-than perfect behavior, seeing the root of why politics aren't allowed around here. Think on that, and decide whether they are idiots or not.

Nope, that was it. It lasted nearly half an hour.

Really the surprise for me was to see Roger W smiling wildly. It was quite refreshing to see him in this mood :)

Not too surprising for me. I find it likely that the reason he never reunited with Floyd before now is because they didn't want him back. I mean, if you put aside the brilliant Pink Floyd-esque Amused to Death, he has built his solo career around his live performances of Floyd material. How many times has he performed The Wall in concert now? Aside from the above-mentioned album, the rest of his solo material was pretty unremarkable.

I do have to say that his last album was superior to Floyd's. The Division Bell was good, but Amused to Death is a masterpiece.

Charming to the last.

Hey, I didn’t name anybody (I do not even remember their name). I just said they behaved bad, which they were. What happened:

After I posted my request (see up there, please find anything flaming in it):

A few were “making police” on the main board in place of the mods, and very narrowly interpreting the “no religion or politics” rule. This rule is perfectly OK for me by the way. I am the mod on a message board and we enforce the same policy. However, we use a certain degree of subtelty in it.

See, when I tried to explain them that this Africa cause was over that, and not related to any political party, i.e. it’s a humanitarian issue about a horrible problem and that petition, not the best way to change things perhaps, still could be a start to something better for African people, I got responses like:

- “you are asking to put pressure on G8, so it is politics” – narrow interpretation, IMHO. What next? Post where people recommending you to buy a book should be erased because it implies you are supporting capitalism? :) Seriously… I am just hoping for a better life for Africans, that’s it. If you see it as strictly political, I can’t do nothing for you.

- “people in Africa are in this messy state because of their own poor decisions” – Sure, the governments of many of these countries are corrupted, or incompetent, but signing it is a good start to making things change, no? More World awareness to these African problems is not a wasted time.

- “it’s their problem, they should stop making babies”, and other similar post – self explanatory

Again, read my request up there, and tell me if I should have expected this kind of answer.

So I tried naively to discuss politely with them but they weren’t really listening and still interpreting the “no politics” in ways I think is very narrow. I might be too naïve, but I expected better from D&D people.

By the way, I posted this request on many D&D boards I frequent and this is the ONLY one where I got this very negative answer.

In short, they dragged me to the political field, where all I wanted is a hope for Africans. Still can't believe how a post about peace can be flamed like this. I wasn't blaming any country or any group, it was about peace. Really, I must be naive.

Yes, I’m sorry for calling them idiots, I confess I should have written something else and not used this word, but try to understand how shocking and surprising this negative reaction to my post was.

Joël

PS: I edited my post to remove offensive words.

Yes, it's always nice to have to report a post isn't it... :\

I wish some people would read the rules, or learn from their mistakes, but hey what can you do.

I don't get it.

Yesterday night, I had a post on the main board telling people where to go for signature. Then I got all kind of weirdos coming in and telling me that political post are not allowed on EnWord.

I replied that it's superceding any political party in power, and that a humanitarian cause was over politics. If it should be moved elsewhere, then let it be moved and sorry for posting on the wrong board.

The said guys nitpicked beyond good faith to show me it's political (everything is true, when viewed at a certain angle), or added crude comments about the use of it / on the poor choices of African people. It was nauseating.

So today I found my thread deleted, while this one here is still there ?!?

Why wasn't my post simply moved to here instead?

Joël

They aren't the same thing. This thread was started so that people could talk about the Live 8 concert itself. Your thread, on the other hand, was asking people to sign an internet petition aimed at influencing G8 policy.

Interesting I seem to recall you saying I wasn't a real moderator, I was selfish and self-righteous.

The fact is that there are too many people on this planet. Relieving the poverty in Africa will just vastly increase the rate of population growth. I can't support that.

Does this bull :eek::eek::eek: have to follow into this thread too?
Personally, I don't really have a problem with people posting humanitarian appeals. Doesn't seem that different from people posting appeals here about helping out a gamer in need, just a little less specifically personal.
But whether it was right for him to post it or not, it's definitely not right for any of you to continue to fight that battle here.

Except that when a thread is closed, it is VERY bad form to start a new thread on the same thing or continue the thread in another(as is being done here).
