Living Superheroes World (Come join the fun and the debate)

I don't follow you here. As in I don't have a clue as to what your trying to suggest but this "campaign" is always going to have its say over the character's history.
Kylara is talking about the world history here, meaning that, the more recent the world-changing event is (our comet), the easier, and less bogged down in details, the whole world-building process will be. Sure, we can take the easy route and say "Everything happens as it happened - with superheroes!" similar to GURPS Technomancer (there is more to the history there, of course). There may be deviations from our known world history even if the obvious deviation point is later (there is nothing to prevent Atlantis from existing if we use the Millennium Comet idea, and something about the sun is propably different in this case, too).

Yea, Knight Otu, that is what I was trying to point out, sorry if that didn't come across clearly Brother Shatterstone.

My point is that the more world history that we have to make up the longer this is going to take, and there is a much higher likelyhood of turning people off because that history doesn't jive with what they think the Game World History should be. If you simply say that the Game World is our world, right up until the event, it fills in all of that world history that we would be fighting and arguing about if we had to make it up. Its much simpler to come up with only 2-3 years of history immediately surrounding the event then to have to fight and argue about 90-100 years of world history if say the Event that diverged our world from the Game world in say 1910 or 1920.

We want the setting to be something people can readily understand and have a feeling for, thats not as hard when the world is the world we have all grown up in, and only 2 or 3 years are different, versus a world with a 90 year alternate timeline to digest.

Ah I see now, here I thought he was talking about each PC coming from a different reality…

Well, I don’t know what to say about that. It’s a great point, I would prefer more than it but if it’s what you all want its what you all will get.

If we all made a different reality, it would get so confusing that I think my poor head would explode  .

Something that might or might not relate to background...but definitely important.

Will there be a central location where everything is started at, ala the Tavern for LEW? Obviously, the Superhero equivalent could be a Justice League style central base, but that, of course preculdes that there IS such an ogranization. So, if there is...the comet can't be THAT recent, as it takes time to build/organize such things. Also, who's in charge? Just random people? Everytime I think about this, it seems like there's going to have to be older(so they can't get involved) heroes who are, essentially, GM NPCs to guide the new heroes along.

And if not that...what?

I have no idea. There would be no super structure if the changes weren’t slow to form to give the world the time to adept to it.

If the comet just happened and the world is in chaos then playing a super villain shouldn’t be an issue. (Yet that’s an issue also.)

With something so major, I think you'd be surprised at how fast things can get done. If we set the world 2-3 years after the Event, it shouldn't be too bad. But I agree, there needs to bea few NPCs n charge of the organization, whether that is through Governmental/UN Liasons, or just having the people who started the organization being Heros, who will lead it and make the assignments to other availible heros, we need to have an easy mechanism for GMs to be able to get the ball rolling with adventures.

Sort of like Matian Manhunter in JLU, he gets information on whats happening, then he assigns teams of heros to go handle it. He might be able to go out and do it himself, but if he did, no other teams would be sent out before he got back, he'd be stretched too thin to do everything, so he sticks to the organizational side of things because thats where he does the most good. Then again we wouldn't need someone with powers to actually do that, just someone that the heros respected and trusted. Possibly a Hero that was injured in a fight, and created the organization to bring heros together to solve problems so they wouldn't end up hurt like he was.

I think you overestimate the good in humanity. This isn’t the world springing to action after a natural disaster this is the world after the world’s greatest weapon system falls into their laps.

At the very leas the super powers (USA, Britain, China, possible what’s left of Russia), large but small states (France, Germany, Japan, etc.), and rogue states that support terrorism wouldn’t be looking after their own self interests before they looked towards the self interest of the planet.

Self-interest could be defined differently also. USA and the rogue states would be looking to form their own teams first and foremost.

Yeah, I do agree with this and if no one has any objections I think I would be interesting in Roleplaying the MM of this campaign. :D (However it's set up.)

Just wanted to add my hat in the ring of interested people. I've always loved the genre, especially the Alan Moore types of stories.

Superheros are just as flawed as the rest of us, and I've always enjoyed games where you can create three-dimensional personalities, warts and all.
