God, my wife's bird just shrieks all day when my wife is gone.

Cuddles is a ring-necked parakeet, but she's been profoundly deaf for four years. I've tried everything - cajoling, giving little pieces of apple, ignoring her, putting her in the travel cage - nothing shuts her up!

Well, almost nothing. Clearing out my sock drawer, laying some paper down, putting her in the sock drawer... umm, that worked.

But I feel kinda guilty about that one. I think I'm going to go get her.

I've known the bird for 5 years and she still isn't "used to me."

My father kept birds, which is to say *he* boasted about his birds while *I* looked after them....

Yon birdy has bonded with your wife, and thinks the wife is its mate. As birds tend to stay in pairs, it is becoming upset at the separation.

One possibility is to get old feather brain a mirror. It can keep itself company all day ("Look! A bird almost as pretty as me!")

If your apartment has a balcony, introduce your pal to the joys of outdoor living for a few hours per day. Stick it in a cage to watch how the neighbourhood birds (and cats) get on with each other.

Another possibility is to get an actual mate for the bird.

Step 1. Don't clip its wings for a while.

Step 2. Make sure it can fly well.

Step 3. "Accidentally" open the door one day while the birdie is out of its cage.

Problem solved.

Yeah, we've tried a mirror before - just makes her louder, really. Also, I live in London, Ontario, Canada, so the balcony's only an option in about 4 months from now. The bird's never been the same since she had her last operation - she had an ear infection (that's why she's deaf).

Rather than come to an RPG site to ask animal advice, why not ask someone who has taken some years of their lives elarning about birds - a veterinarian who deals with avians?

sorry I can't be of any real help. This strikes me as something to discuss in earnest with your wife. I, for one, cannot imagine putting up with the kind of racquet it sounds like you're putting up with. It would be me or the bird.
