I could see possibly giving them an Ex ability, but not a Su ability like the xeph. It seems more like they are just good at a real quick ambush. Maybe just give them pounce?

Another possibility would be the sprint ability of the cheetah, which is only extraordinary.

Or both. :)

Pounce (Ex): If an agrutha charges a foe, it can make a full attack.

Sprint (Ex): Once per hour, an agrutha can move ten(?) times its normal speed (x feet) when it makes a charge.

Good idea, but perhaps only twice its normal speed. Both things combined should make for a hefty LA though.

Sounds good. No worries about the LA. Since it's already got 4HD, it's not likely to be a starting player character anyway. ;)

Sounds good. Did we still want to use tail sweep? For medium:

Tail Sweep (Ex): An agrutha can sweep with its tail as a standard action. The sweep affects a 5 foot square, extending from an intersection on the edge of the agrutha’s space in any direction. A tail sweep automatically deals 1d6+3 (1-1/2 times Strength bonus) hp of damage. Affected creatures can attempt Reflex saves to take half damage (DC 14; the save DC is Strength-based).

Does this look good, or should we just go for a tail slap for simplicity?

I changed sprint to three times its speed, since a charge is normally twice speed already.

Let's ditch tail sweep. For the dragon ability, it only applies against creatures four or more size categories smaller, so it would only be able to use it against Fine creatures.

Skills: 7

Feats: 2

Challenge Rating: 2?

An agrutha is usually 7 to 8 feet tall with a 3 to 4 foot long tail. An agrutha can weigh from x to x pounds. (Note it is about a foot taller than a standard lizardfolk, which weighs 200-250).

Ok, but let's give it a tail slap attack.

Maybe 300-400 lb?

Skills: Spot 4, Listen 3?

Feats: Power Attack, Improved Bull Rush (to take advantage of powerful build?)

Favored Class: Barbarian

CR2 sounds about right.
