Load me up with Eberron!

I think the sections you are referring to are in 5 Nations, not the Player's Guide to Eberron.

D'oh! For some reason, I often get the contents of those two confused--even when I'm reaching for them on the shelf.

I have been looking more closely at this setting, though still from afar, as it were. It has occurred to me that I might like to run it some day. And I like some of Keith Baker's other works, so. . .

Anyway, what would you recommend a DM get, if they want to inflict the Eberron experience in its full might and glory on some unsuspecting (but experienced, adult) players?

Now's yur chance to pick up some Eberron books for cheap from Amazon Marketplace sellers.

Was just going to say that...

Some of the source books, including Sharn: City of Towers (which I've heard referred to as the "Eberron Campaign Setting II" by many), Magic of Eberron, Player's Guide to Eberron, and more are only $0.01, plus $3.99 shipping.

I think the ECS itself is available for $4.99 plus $3.99 shipping.

I just bought Magic of, Races of, Sharn, Five Nations, Explorers, and Player's Guide to Eberron on used book sale through Amazon for $4 each including shipping. With the 4e anouncement there are some deals to be had on 3e books right now.

I've considered getting the Player's Guide to Faerun. However, the only way I'll likely play FR is through 4E. In that case, the 4E FR book should tide me through.

Personally, I liked the Races of Eberron book, as it fleshes out the details of the Eberron-specific races, and provides some needed extra goodies for those characters.

Interestingly, I was going to say that Races of Eberron is really the only Eberron-focused book I didn't care for. No disrespect to the authors--they're all good--but in this particular instance, their choice of how to expand on the races often didn't fit with my own preferred methods and ideas. (This is particularly true of the warforged.)

But I think every other Eberron book is worth getting, personally, to a greater or lesser extent.

A lot of it depends on where you want to play in Eberron. You'll likely spend most of the time on one continent. For Sarlona and Xen'drik, the choices are obvious: Secrets of Foo. It gets a little more complicated in Khorvaire. Here are my book recommendations for a Khorvairian campaign:

1) Eberron Campaign Setting for eminently transparent reasons.
2) Forge of War because anybody who lives in Khorvaire was affected by the war.
3) Tales of the Last War is an anthology with a bunch of excellent short stories that give you a great sense of life in Khorvaire. (Mouseferatu wrote one of the better ones.)
4) City of Towers is the first novel in the Dreaming Dark series by Keith Baker. It is really really really good. The whole series is an adventuring romp through Eberron and totally worth reading.

After that it becomes a question of what you want to focus on.
Dragonmarked is perfect if the Houses will play a big role in your game.
Five Nations is good for anything in the central kingdoms.
Sharn: City of Towers is a fantastic book, especially if you're going to play there.

Yeah, I surely knew about the current Amazon marketplace deals. :D But thanks, I mightn't have.

There is some great advice here, or so it seems to me. However, I'm really finding Glyfair's thread with that neat rating system for each product does the trick, even better. So I'll leave this thread alone now, and post any future questions I might have in that one.

Thanks to those people who gave their advice here. It has helped!

Eh, guy's a hack. I avoid him like the plague.

Just to rate my own stuff, I prefer "Steel Shadows" and "Fallen Angel" to Shadows of the Last War, which ended up a little wonky. Of the two, I prefer "Steel Shadows".

Meanwhile, in other news, I think Crime & Punishment and Occult Lore both have lots of utility for Eberron. One of these days I need to do an informal "Eberron Expanded" for them on Bossy the Cow.

And, of course, every Eberron player should own at least three copies of Gloom. That's just common sense.

Anyhow, welcome to Eberron!

Yeah, I totally get that.

Ah yes, the infamous reverse-psych sell. Crafty. :]

That would be awesome. :)

D00d. If that's just common sense, I think I'll get by with just what I got for now. ;)

Anyhow, welcome to Eberron!
Thanks!

Still waiting for international shipping, by the way. . .
