No, the worst idea for a weapon ever was expressed in a freeform RPG most of my group(with the exception of Vechs) played in back in the day:

Anyone remember in Poison Elves when that human was sitting at a table full of elves and he voiced concern about losing an eye.

Here's the scoop I got, straight from Ryo Mizuno (Lodoss writer guy) at AnimeCentral a couple ears... um, years back. The character designer for the anime series usually worked as an anime mecha designer. The elf ears are actually influenced by Gundam antennae.

I run a user friendly world. I got lands of vulcan-eared elves, and I got other lands of jack-elves.
