Anyone pick up the latest issue of Thor written by Oeming?

What'd you think?

Personally, I HATED it. Spoilers:
In his first issue Oeming kills off practically every Asgardian except for Thor AND destroys Mjolnir (again.) I don't mind if supporting characters die and there's some actual *emotion* involved, but there it's like three panels-BOOM-everyone's gone. There are parts of the issue I enjoyed--the creation of Mjolnir myth, Loki and crew all using weapons from the same mold that created Mjolnir, etc., but the crazy body count turned me off in a big way.

I actually enjoyed the issue and am curious to see how things pan out. I've already read part 2 (due out next week) and it has a good blend of actual Norse mythology in it concerning the death of a character. I am very curious to see where the story goes and how it winds up.

Hafta agree with you here, mainly because they've pretty much went through a similar mess a few issues ago! It was "corrected" as I expected it to be--time travel. It seems to be a batch of the same-old, same-old, & it's quite tiresome. Can't complain about the artwork, but oh boy, can I ever complain about the writing.

I don't think it helps matters much since this is supposed to be a crossover event, but it does feel like that continuity, even with stuff written perhaps a year ago or a few issues ago, isn't considered anymore. It feels more like an assembled collection of unconnected "how I'd write this comic" stories rather than truly part of a continuous storyline in a larger collaborative-writing world (which, if you think about the big comic settings like Marvel & DC, it actually is--one big collaborative anthology which possesses seperate, mingling, & truly blended storylines).

The Ultimate storylines are a fresh start, but I don't have too much hope for them at all, esp. with how the main comic line is treated--eventually, Ultimates will wind up like the main line. It'll just take some writer changes, or a considerable staff change at Marvel to make it happen.
