Long Bow and Dexterity Bonus

Level 1 20 Dex Rogue Elf with Long Bow proff

Didn't say it was good, just that it's technically rules-legal.

Someone pointed out to me that at level 1 as an Elf, using a Long Bow is not too bad, as its 1-10 damage plus Dex modifier.

Even though only light x.bow gets SA damage.

Reckon I could use it quite well as a longer range option.

I wouldn't. As a rogue, you should be getting combat advantage every round, or pretty close to it, which means that going from a hand crossbow to a longbow gives you an average damage increase of 2 points, but at the cost of an average seven points of sneak attack damage (nine if you take the Backstabber feat). Rogues aren't defined by their weapon die size, but by their sneak attack.

Also, it's any crossbow that gets sneak attack damage. There isn't even any such thing as a light crossbow in 4E, just the hand crossbow and crossbow in the PHB. Adventurer's Vault adds the superior crossbow and the repeating crossbow.

What I meant is that I'd allow using a ranged weapon with Sweeping Blow because it's not better than a melee weapon. The flavor text is just for show.

THis does however mean I have to spend a feat t be profficient in the "Crossbow" as apposed to the "Light Crossbow" correct ???
