Longest Campaign

Man I am so jealous of some of you on here...my longest game I personally ran was 4 months, from 1st level to 4th level. One guy had a PC that was 4 xp away from 5th level but I am a stickler to that stuff. It was a lot of fun until two players got into this argument about something in game that went out of game and let's just say that this group went from friends to enemies faster than you can say, "oh." Not a single person from that group still talks to each other. Quite sad actually cuz we were a good rpg group. Until one took things too personally.

Dave Arneson own3z us all

Arneson: Yeah, I've still got my campaign going. We get together once a month with a group down here, and at least once a year I go back to Minnesota. We can get usually about half the people that played in the original Blackmoor games. That means I have had a campaign now that's been going for something like 38 years -- since before D&D existed!

If by a single campaign you mean one set of characters, I can't claim too much; but if you mean many interrelated groups running concurrently and crossing over (for instance, the current group evolved from a group of old pcs from different parties dating back to mid-2e), then I'm at about 610 games since about 1992.

Giving it a little more thought and explanation, my campaign world is only about 12-1/2 years old (real time) but it is a continuation of my old campaign world (a version of Greyhawk wherein over a thousand years had passed by the end), which died an apocalyptic death when the pcs failed to stop the big baddie from doing his big badness (and eating nature).

My new campaign world was created by a survivor, who had fled outside of nature itself to survive. (By 'nature' I mean all the standard planes- essentially the multiverse.)

Looked at this way, the campaign stretches back to late 1982.

I've only had a chance to play 1 character since 3E came out. We started our campaign about 2 weeks after 3E released. Our campaign is nearing Epic now. Most of the characters are at 17th level or so. We meet 2 or 3 times a month. We're looking to retire the campaign in the next 6 months or so, but I wouldn't mind hitting the 5 year mark ;)
