Looking for a magic item!

GILGAMESH

First Post
Quite awhile back I was paging thru a few books at the local store and in one of them there was a magic item that could identify other magical items. I believe it was googles or specticles or something like that.

The problem is I can't remember from what book this item was in, and none of the specifics of the item.

Anyone out there have a clue about what book this could have come from?

There are two in the Magic Item Compendium. Articifer's Goggles and the Monocle of Perusal. The former was originally an Eberron item, I believe.

Any idea on what the book looked like? Was it Wizards of the Coast or some other publisher? Hard bound or soft bound? Full color or black and white?

The item does not ring a bell with me though I do use a book of identifying for my own campaigns.

There's the mage's spectacles soulmeld, but that's not really an item, and only adds a bonus to spellcraft, decipher script, and UMD (although you can then use the skills untrained

Sadly I don't remember. At the book store, I hit the used bin of books first then to the newer stuff.
I was looking for something specific so I was paying very little attention to anything else.
But for some reason I remember thinking, "Wow, cool magic item." and that's it, till now. This item can come in pretty handy in the group I'm playing with.

Book of Identifying. Great idea!

Thanks, basically it has a number of charges equal to its page count. One opens the book to an empty page and places a magical item on that blank page. After a little bit of time the page fills with text describing and identifying the magical item.

Freudian slip? I know I use Google to identify everything. :D
