D&D 5E Looking for Campaigns for 14+ level PCs

It is not so hard for a group of mooks to roll a 15-16 which is the highest they would need to hit my player with the highest AC. Couple with the fact I often pre-roll large groups and it even easier when it is easy for a large group of mooks to get advantage on attacks, we haven't had any issue with running the large groups of monsters needed to challenge a high level group.

Can I ask about your pre-rolling method? What do you do, exactly?

But that is about right. A "hard" encounter should cost you a spell slot or two and maybe a few hit points. Which seems good for a side quest. If you want to make things interesting, you need to start with deadly and go up from there. Even more so if your talking about 17th level PCs

That's all a Hard encounter is supposed to do? DMG says 6-8 Med to Hard for the adventuring day (need to double-check the XP/day table)...what's a Med encounter supposed to cost, then?

Yeah, like I said, I know exactly how the spell works. If it were a WIS save, it might not be the biggest deal, but it's CHA, and even having advantage doesn't mean much when you need to roll a 17+ or be removed from the fight (making the rest of the fight markedly easier)
Marilith has a +8 on Wis sav w/ advantage your looking at +10-12, so they are going to make that most of the time. Doesn't seem to bad to me.

IF our fighter had a shield he would have a 20, but he doesn't, so 18 is our max AC.
PS the group is level 14 at the moment.
I generally reckon AC is only an effective defence if you push bounded accuracy, so my EK/War wiz has an AC of 23/26 using a spell slot, even before magic armour or shields.

It's also concentration. Ask yourself, as GM, if you were a PC and a bad guy cast a concentration spell that took half the PCs out of the fight, what would you do on your next action?

Yes 8 x2 = 16 spell slots and some number of HP. That seems about right to me. Remember, look at the description of a hard fight - it really shouldn't be a threat to drop anyone. It is just resource management. If you want to drop people deadly, by the definition, is only a possibility. So to really throw fear into the PCs you have to go beyond deadly.
