It is a weird mish-mosh of material drawn from mythology, folklore, Caesar's writings (1st century BC), early Irish history (written c. 800 AD), with a notion that All Celts Everywhere Throughout Time Are The Same. While I agree that Avalanche is trying for an aggragate view, this book comes off more as an embarassing jumble than any serious view of Celtic culture in any time or place.
As someone who has looked into (at various times) the history of Gaul, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, and Brittany I know there are huge differences, both in time and location.
I cannot speak to the other Avalanche products, but this one is not good; Testament is a far better example of what could be done with a mytho-historical setting.

So, no one has anything to say about Sengoku? Weird.
And what would you say about Sengoku? I liked the first edition though it had a few confusing points and needs a character sheet with all the info on it. Hopefull y, the revised edition cleaned up alot of the mistakes in the writing. As far as the setting goes, Sengoku is one of the best RPGs I have seen on the subject of fuedal Japan.

The people who wrote it, however, praised the Legend of the Five Rings RPG for handling Japan in a High Fantasy way. So this means that Rokugan d20 is endorsed by Gold Rush Games. So if you want historicity, get Sengoku and convert it to d20. If you want Asian High Fantasy, go with Rokugan d20. Both are quite excellent. However, my secret plan concerning L5R is in formation now.

It's for Fuzion, which IMNSHO, is a complete mess. The book (I have 1rst edition) doesn't help matters by waiting until 100 pages into it to actually start discussing the rules. Before that you see charts that say things like "-5K/ML" and you go, "huh". I also don't like how the game glossed over Membership Levels. Spending XP to buy your ML up kinda takes the fun out of it.
That being said, the book is a good resource on ancient/feudal Japan. I'd say about 75% of the book has non-system specific information. Still, it's no Bushido.
Sengoku is a very 90s game in the same way that Bushido is a very 80s game.
