Looting bodies. Eww.

My thoughts are that adventurers aren't really right in the head to begin with... I mean think about it... Someone one day said to a group of his friends..

Hey man, there's this underground laberynth filled with nasty traps, tretcherous terrain, and monsters that want to kill you with their teeth/magic/poison/psionics/deathrays/fire/tentacles/razor sharp weapons...

What say we go there and loot the place?

There is a large variance in society and I would imagine that the people who are called to adventure and kill are also those who would be able to handle the aftermath.
I agree completely. If a person can split a hobgoblin in half from neck to navel (and how else do you describe the greataxe crit that does 75 points of damage and instantly brings the thing to -30hp? ) he can certainly roll over the remains to see if the thing's sword was magical.

Especially if said sword might keep him from being split in two in the next life-or-death struggle. Which is likely to happen the very next day.

The behaviour of adventurers is, usually, pretty unpleasant. Looting the dead, graverobbing... the list goes on. It's justified because the victims are evil.

Personally, I imagine most adventurers would have the stomach for it.

However, I could see how easily looting dead bodies (even of foes) could be considered unethical (or dishonorable). For instance, if you've just slain a group of goblins, what are the odds the loot their carrying actually belongs (or belonged) to residents of a near by town?

For most of the characters I've played over the years, it's been more of a survival tactic (a way to get paid).

Soliders and camp followers use to loot bodies after battles, why would adventurers be any different. The only reason we don't hear about it nowdays is our troops have much better equipment and pay than the enemy most of the time, but you can bet the enemy loots our dead soliders.

Eh, thats just the name of the game I guess, spilling guts and poking dead bodies is fine with WoTC.
Hot and dirty sex or nipple rings are not however.. enjoy.

No politics I guess... so I deleted my little flame.

Not too different to what people were doing a century or two ago; things like "Let´s go to that unexplored continent, filled with terrible diseases, wild animals, hostile natives and generally uncomfortable, to see where this river comes from"
