Lord of the Oscars

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned Michael Moore being squashed by an oliphant. Next to the awards sweep, that was the highlight of the night. :p
Definatly funny...but overall, the show WAS boring.

However, it was great to see Fantasy get recognized for once. It was nice to see all the crew getting up and being recognized for all thier hard work. Somehow, though, I'm surprised Seabiscit didn't get anything. That just seemed like a movie the Academy would love...

11 Oscars! Take that Titanic!

Sean should have at least been nominated for Best Supporting Actor, though.

The only thing that bothers me is that now we'll never know if the Academy really thought that LotR was that great, or if it was just giving in to fear of the possibility of the Nerd Riots of 2004. :D

I missed this. Does anyone have a link to it?

I thought the whole show was great... very smooth, not too many terrible acceptance speeches, funny... I think it was the best Oscars I've ever seen.

Murray: "After a few weeks of filming several crew members requested that the director be changed. We were kindly refused." BA-HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Adrian Brody: The award for achievement by an actress in a leading role... *mouth spray* And the Oscar goes to... ba-HAHAHAHA

Black & Ferrell: "You're Boring" Wooo-ha-ha-ha

Blake Edwards gave perhaps the most eloquent speech of the night.

Bob Hope and Katherine Hepburn montages were well done and enjoyable.

LOTR kicked butt, even if it was overdue to award PJ an Oscar for what he'd done... after all, he directed 3 movies with unprecidented skill, not just one.

Here is a blurb from Yahoo about RotK being 100% gold:

The Return of the King was only the fourth film to capture every nominated category, joining Gigi and The Last Emperor, both of which went nine-for-nine, and It Happened One Night, which went five-for-five.

It was cool to see it wan all those worthless statues. They should give an extra Oscar gift basket to each winner. Anyway, Pete broke a lot of new ground making these movies.

Nerd riots. Definitely.

Frustrating me a bit, as alot of the awards were categories that they were nominated for in the past, and very little in the ways of the major technical awards actually was 'different' from the prior two movies. Especially since they were all filmed and edited at the same time to begin with. Oh well, pet peeve rambled over me for this year's awards I guess.
I don't think they were edited at the same time, just the principal production shooting for 14-plus consecutive months. When they were done with the production shooting, they begin post-production and editing for the first of three films (FOTR) so they can meet the December 2001 release deadline, while the rest of the footage are stored. During post-production, the special effects are also being done for the first film, and if need be, any reshoots.

After December 2001, they begin post-production of the second film, TTT, and simultaneously, the production of Extended Edition FOTR DVD.

But you have to admit, each film gets better ending with the best film, ROTK, completing the set, IMHO (although I still have a place for TTT in my heart ... I'm a sucka for Big Battles).
