Well, my respect for Chuck Lukacs just diminished by a few notches. How difficult is it to keep those kinds of views out of your work? Sean K. Reynolds is very opinionated, but he doesn't try to put his views into his RPG stuff. I don't mind people having different opinions, but to try to "sneak" it into your work like that smells suspiciously of subliminal brainwashing.

Back on topic, I thought the artwork overall was pretty good in this book. Cramer/Crabapple/Whatever-He's-Calling-Himself-This-Month does seem to do better when he's not attempting to draw humanoids, doesn't he? I'm still not thrilled with his work here, but I admit it's less appalling than his usual fare.

I agree, this Colin Fix guy is one to watch. My only gripe with the art is too much Crabapple, not enough Spencer. Then again, I think Mr Werewolf does better fur then slime.

I like Jim Nelson's vampire illithid:

If you can find some of his stuff on book of the Wyrm 2nd ed, you may change your mind.

I'm quite impressed with most of this newer generation of talent that WotC is freelancing these days. I've been a Ron Spencer fan for close to ten years now from Werewolf, but he's not the only guy that's new to D&D who I really like.

In fact, between the art for this book and Races of Eberron I'm more positive about the art of the WotC books than I've ever been. Both had really topnotch art overall.
