Lost 5-19-05

I, too, predicted that "Sawyer" would be on the raft, and that he would probably tell Jack about his Dad, prior to leaving... Then again, I also predicted that Sayid would be on there, as well! :p

So what was up with the girl in the bar (name began with a "J", IIRC)? We've never seen her, before... Is she going to be the first of the "Others" from the tail section that we see?

Leslie Arzt (Science teacher) may also be an "Other", now... It is immediately suspicious when someone is "too scared" to continue, then "volunteers" to "go back, alone", only to get separated, and then show back up, again, immediately afterwards... I predict that he and Danielle Rouseau will be the first of "the Infected". Yep... Arzt is a "Red-Shirt"! :D

Nice to finally get "Sawyer's" real name (James Foll, was it? Someone, above, said Ford!) We still know nothing, for sure, about the island, or what is going on... Nice to see that they're starting to play with the Flashbacks Formula, however... Up until now, all we've seen have been flashbacks from ONE character, the whole show... This time, we got flashbacks from several, all in the same episode.

Speaking of which, were the man and the woman in the airport, talking about Sun & Jin (and assuming she couldn't understand them) anyone we've seen before? I didn't recognize them...

Also nice to see what they did with Shannon, this episode! See was actually Human! WOW! I hope she keeps on developing, until she becomes a sympathetic character!

Hmmm! Locke being dragged through the jungle, next week... I couldn't see, by what... I assume it was the "Security System"! Tsk, John! Shoulda left that escape hatch alone! :p

She is a twist: rumor...
[sblock]Her and Jack hit it off on the plane, she and 'OTHERS' survivors turn up on the island, which makes for more interesting love triangle. Not to mention the word 'others'.[/sblock]

It doesn't really make sense that the Others are from the tail section of the plane, since according to Dana (the French Woman), they took her baby daughter years ago.

Unless...the French Woman is totally insane. Which she probably is.

The ship kinda blew my mind. The first thing I thought of was Lord of the Flies. I imagine the Others to be a tribe of savages descended from 17th century Dutch sailors or something similar.

Between the mysterious hatch (Locke still hasn't revealed what he saw in there when the light came on), the invisible T-Rex/security system, the science teacher appearing all of a sudden and trying to convince them not to leave the island, and the talk of being brought to the island for a reason, I can't help but feel that it's one big Truman Show-like experiment.

I'm definitely looking forward to the season finale next week.

I really enjoyed this episode.

I had speculated that the Black Rock might be a ship, but I thought it would be the French Woman's ship. I never would have guessed that it was an old sailing vessel.

I was glad to see "Sawyer" telling Jack about his dad. That was a really well done scene.

I can't wait to find out what they find on the ship next episode.

more numbers...

Hey, did anyone catch the numbers reference during the scene with Jack and the girl in the airport bar?

His seat was in row 23 and hers was in row 42.

Good catch, missed it completely! 4 8 15 16 23 42

When I saw the Black Rock was a ship I immediately thought of the Pitcairn Islanders, descendants HMS Bounty, after the 1789 mutinee some the mutineers with their Tahitian consorts found sanctuary on Pitcairn Island.

Imagine if "the Others" are descendants of some similar event.

I looked up the list of crewmen of the HMS Bounty to see if there could be some names to look out for but nothing really jumped out other than about half of the crew were named William or John. ;)

Arzt was on the passenger manifest, per Hurley. "I think Leslie's a bitchin' name!"

Sawyer's name was revealed in his last flashback episode, IIRC. Well, his first name anyway, I don't think his last name was.

Maybe its the " Black Roc"?

If you pause right when they show the ship, you can clearly see that it says Black Rock on the stern of the ship.

I'll admit the Sun/Jin stuff got me teary-eyed as well. I'm a softie, what can I say.

I liked how Sawyer kept looking for Kate, presumably to apologize. I really hope now that Jack and Kate don't end up together.

Mira Furlan owns, and I really hope that she's a regular next season.

Another good quote from Arzt, "I was willing to help until Monton lost his arm!"

I liked the flashback of Shannon and Boone, only because it highlighted that Shannon has changed somewhat. I really don't think that she would get Sayid in trouble simply to spite Boone now. Well, if Boone were alive. She's still got a ways to go. Also, props to Walt for talking to her... a bit of Locke's wisdom rubbing off on him, I guess.

Also, that dynamite is old!
