Lost City Of Gaxmoor

Anybody DMing/playing in this module from Troll Lord Games?

I'm interested in what you think, of course, as two stalwards from my old Greyhawk campaign who also happen to be my sons wrote it :D

When I played in the early testing my PC was booted around a good deal, likely some revenge for my DMly cruelties in the past, but in all I thought the adventure very interesting, and I had a lot of fun. It had both the "feel" of AD&D with all the new material of 3E, and I am wondering if others concur.

Ciao,
Gary

Hi Gary,

Good to see a recent post from you as usual. I have to say that I just saw it in the store here in Munich, Germany (nice distribution!) but haven't had a chance to take a really good look into it. I was interested from some of the previous conversations on the board, I just have to wait until next paycheck, then I'll likely work it into my weekly group. I'll let you know when I have it and can offer a bit more useful insight :)

I have it and I like it quite a bit. I'm still just reading it, though.

There are a few problems I have - the artwork (other than the cover) is not that strong, the maps aren't great, and there are a few glitches/typos here and there that might impede play for a short while (off the top of my head, there is a goofed-up stat block that I've seen pointed out).

However, the feel/atmosphere of the adventure and setting is great. Imaginative and fun. This book harkens back to classics like City State of the Invincible Overlord and Dwellers of the Forbidden City.

There is a discussion of it on the Necromancer Games board. Here is a link to the 3rd page, where people begin to report that they have it and are either reading it or about to play it:

Hi, Gary,
Nice to finally meet you (virtually that is!) :D

Gaxmoor is an adventure setting I'm hoping to use in my own campaign. I agree, Gaxmoor does feel (or should I say "look") like an AD&D adventure site. If I didn't know better, I would've swore it WAS a 1E adventure converted over.

Two small cautions to any who might be considering running Gaxmoor: some of the orcs with axes stat blocks may need a little fixing up. I didn't have a PHB handy when I read, but something seemed a little off. And, two, I'd be careful about sending 1st level PC's off into this place ;)

Other then those two very small points the product looks great, lots of playing time for the buck and I'm imagining tons of fun.

I'm curious, what level did you play test at?

Was anyone else struck by a "Temple of Elemental" feel while reading? I can't put my finger on "why," but this place sure did bring that lovely little site near Nulb to mind...:) Ah, and such fond memories of that place I do have.

Ah, man, after writing this I wanna get the group together and play right now. :(

I'm planning on picking it up soon. I picked up Geanavue instead (I realize they're very different products) the other day because of the better artwork, particularly the great city map in that Kingdoms of Kalamar supplement. But I plan to get Gaxmoor soon. Also, I didn't pick it up right away because at first glance, it doesn't seem as if the adventure can be broken into small pieces very easily, and our group tends to run a bunch of different shorter adventures rather than one very long one (same reason I never bought RTTTOEE).

Gary, any word on that book, I think it was called "Book of Everyday Things" or something like that? Forgive me if I have the name horribly mangled.

No offense intended to the Troll Lords guys, or the Gygaxes, but the editing in the book is beyond "a little fixing up".

A lot of the stat blocks are wrong; beyond just the use of incorrect terminology. For example: Half-fire giant, Half-red dragon, 6th level sorcerer, CR 8.

The feel is very good, as is the general background information, but the implementation of 3e rules is a little weak.

I came really close to buying this today. I was going to, but I realized didn't have enough money (short by a dollar).

Looks very very 'first edition', so to speak.

I'd like to mail-order this (I'm in UK) but where can I get hold of it? EN World Shop, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com all turn up blank. :(

5 minutes later:
Found it on EN World, just a little difficult. :)

Haven't got my copy yet but its on order (hopefully Monday). Looking forward to this, hopefully the errors aren't too bad and are easily found and corrected.

Now I have your newly announced adventure to look forward to as well!
