Lost Empires of Faerun excerpts - oh my!

Arcor Kerym is the strictest of the elfblades when it comes to evaluating a prospective wielder. The candidate must be of lawful good alignment and must have the good of Cormanthyr and the elf people as his highest priority. In addition, a character who seeks to wield the Crownblade should have high ranks in Diplomacy, Sense Motive, and other social interaction skills.

The penalty for an unworthy character who attempts to bond with Arcor Kerym is as straightforward as it is final -- he is consumed by golden fire, which burns him away to nothingness in 1 round (Fort DC 23 partial; success means the subject takes 40d6 points of damage instead). A character found unworthy and subsequently brought back from the dead still loses the 2,500 XP for attempting the attuning ritual.

Yay! It's still there, the Darth Vader sword of Cormanthyr! "You've disappointed me for the last time, Coronal Viet!"

Nothing says "chaotic good race" like selecting your leader by means of a magical item that kills at whimsy anyone who doesn't suit its needs!

What the elves need is definitely a Molly Weasley. "Never trust anything that thinks for itself if you can't see where it keeps its brain."

So MerricB, why do you hate Fr? Dont worry, I wont try to convert you ;) .

Heh. I'm more disaffected than a true hater of the setting.

Why am I disaffected? The Horde, Maztica and Marco Volo. All three of those things in the space of one year managed to ruin the Realms for me. Suddenly "reality" was forcing itself into an interesting world, and then there were my experiences with running the Avatar trilogy...

I'll still buy the occasional novel, and I'll happily run LGR adventures from time to time, but now Eberron and Greyhawk have much more of my attention. (I do have the FRCS, and I approved of the 3e changes).

Cheers!

As I said in the Top 10 reasons...Wish this book had been more general than FR, while I can cross campaign, so far this does not open my wallet...yet...will have to see it and read some reviews. :)

Hooray, they got the Crown Wars right this time! That was the only bad thing about Races of Faerun, besides making lycanthropes more confusing. I am intrigued about the addition of fiends into the mix I must say...

I'm really digging Eberron right now, but I'm watching FR very closely to see how WotC goes about defining its niche, especially in relationship to Eberron.

And this is interesting stuff, and makes good use of the rich history of the Realms.

Which is interesting, given that the sword accepts only those of lawful good alignment. :)
