No,but then this is the exact same pattern the first two seasons followed, so it doesn't surprise me in the least.

I'm skeptical as well. I've liked the past two episodes, but really up until now the entire season's been a wash and I really don't think a few good episodes make up for that. And I just can't stop laughing whenever I think of the magic box.

I'll echo the comments that if the castaways don't move into the village, then they're just as incredibly stupid as some of the complaints have made them out to be (and I'll reluctantly find myself edging closer to the WTF? camp). It just wouldn't make any sense not to- nice housing and accomodations, running water, electricity, security...

There are potential risks too. In addition to it being harder for rescuers to spot them as you alluded to, there is the possibility of booby traps, hidden cameras/microphones, secret passages into or out of the village that the Others know about but the Losties don't, just to name a few. The village would have to be thoroughly searched and inspected before I moved in there.

If the smoke monster can put the pilot in a tree, it can fly over a fence, quiaff?
Well, we never saw what killed the pilot.

The smoke monster came at Juliette. Guess it didn't know about the giant bug zapper.

Back in the real world, Hurley conned Sawyer into being nice. How cool is that! :D
Kinda weird that Sawyer, who's a confidence man, experiences such trouble pretending to be likable.

One possibility is that the force, signal or what-ever the fence uses extends upwards indefinitely. The other, and this is the one I believe, is that the Smoke Monster is part of the ruse Benry is working and that is why it did not fly over or kill them when they were hiding in the tree.

I figure the sonic barrier prevents whatever connection the smoke monster needs to the ground.

If you watch Lost with captions on, you'll see the captioners always make a big point of stressing the mechanical sounds associated with the smoke monster. I suspect there's some sort of dirt-covered mechanical tracks it moves on and can't move too far from.

In general, Sawyer doesn't want to be liked, and his ability to get people to trust him is a very different skill set than getting people to support him. Also, he doesn't have time (since Hurley said that the vote was imminent) to set up the long con.

I think not. Matter of fact, as Hurley pointed out, they turned to him for leadership quite naturally.

Sure, but Sawyer doesn't understand that. If there's no angle, he's generally not interested. And if there's an angle, the result is that the other person is going to hate him afterward. He may have natural talent in that area, but he doesn't know it or know how to use it.
