"Lost" movie in the works

I wouldn't treat this as more than an internet rumor. First, I've not heard of "WENN" or "monstersandcritics.com," so there's no veracity there.

And second, perhaps more importantly, is this chunk:

I call BS on that. You're telling me that Disney, who owns ABC, won't use one of its own studios automatically? And that it won't just pick the one that best makes that type of film?

I don't believe it.

Disney may own ABC, but they don't necessarily own the company that makes Lost. Until very recently, it was illegal for a network to actually produce the shows that were seen on its network.

Hmm. Well, I like the idea. I mean, the Twin Peaks movie (Fire Walk with Me) is great. It was not well received when it first came out, but now stands as one of David Lynch's greatest works.

I think having the movie be the "end" of the story would work great. but if it is a story that takes place in between one season and another (aka having more seasons of the show after the movie comes out) then it probably isn't going to work very well. They simply can't give the kind of payoff at the end of the movie that it truly would require if they are planning on doing more shows with the same cast.

WOW! I really disagree with you on that one. I still really dislike that movie even after all these years. I'm still a huge fan of the TV show though.

"Serenity" notwithstanding, I think turning a tv series into a movie is generally not a good idea. TV actors and movie actors are apples and oranges for the most part. I'm not sanguine about the success of this. But maybe they'll buck the odds and make something decent.

Hm. I'd disagree about the "tv vs. movie actors" bit- actors are actors. There are good ones, and there are bad ones, and there are actors who can make good material bad, and actors who can make bad material good (or at least palatable). There are editors who can destroy a performance, there are editors who can salvage a performance... etc. (And of course, producers/directors/actors can totally ruin a good writer's script...)

IMO, anyway.

If anything, it seems there is a lot more transparency between film and tv these days than at any other time in entertainment history- film actors doing tv shows (and series), tv actors doing film roles. A lot of them do theatre in the off-seasons/between productions as well.

What happened to "the creators have 7 seasons figured out for Lost" we heard last year?

I don't like this at all. Good shows are few and far between. Doing two seasons and making a cop out movie is bunk. Hopefully it's just a silly rumor.

I never saw the X-Files movie, how was that handled in accordance with the series?

IIRC it took place in between a couple of seasons, I forget what seasons thou.

While the Lost creators might have 7 seasons planned for Lost, ABC is just itching to cancel it, because while it gets good ratings, it costs a lot to make, since it's shot on location in Hawaii.

And on it being filmed in Hawaii: that doesn't make any sense. If it's getting really good ratings, they charge a ton for advertising, and they make a ton of money. That's how it always works. What gives you the idea that ABC wants to get rid of Lost? Seriously.
