Lost: Questions on Season One

Andrew D. Gable

First Post
Just got done watching the Season One DVD, as I'm a late-comer (got into the show at the end of Season Two...) and thought of some things.

The numbers (4 8 15 16 23 42)... anyone ever notice that the numbers also show up with the plane? Flight 815 and from flashbacks we see Gate 23? Someone has, I'm sure...

Also... minor possibly anal point... the dynamite on the Black Rock. If the Black Rock was a slave ship, they couldn't have dynamite could they? Didn't the slave trade end before the invention of dynamite?

Rousseau, while leading the castaways to the Rock, seemed to indicate that one of her crew lost an arm prior to the outbreak of the mystery disease. Any connection with Michael shooting himself in the arm, do you think?

The numbers recur throughout season one and season two. The finale is just the most prominent.

The best explanation I can make for the dynamite is that slave trade didn't end everywhere at once... but that's an old ship. I don't know.

We don't know enough about Rousseau (boo not using Mira) to really speculate about the whole arm thing, I think.

Modern dynamite was invented in 1863. US slavery technically ended in 1865, but slavery elsewhere in the world continues to this day.

But I haven't see every episode of Lost, so I'm just spouting easily googled facts. :)

The numbers infest everything. In the show watch for them on the backs of shirts, the tops of squad cars, prescription slips...everything.
