D&D 4E Lost S04E3 14 Feb 2008 - The Economist

I really like the "Freighter Four". With the exception of Mr. Eko, they are all far more entertaining than any of the Tailies.

That poor man has been beaten, shot, humiliated, organ-harvested, and even defenestrated. If it's in the condition summary, Locke has probably survived it. :p

Don't forget, he is walking about with an open wound!

Well, I have to say that the whole Sayid/German Chick sequence snookered me. I totally didn't see her pulling a gun and shooting him! I also didn't see Sayid being taken in a double bluff.

He's an interesting character precisely because he is capable of being so ruthless, and yet so open hearted at the same time.

You must be watching a different show, because I have yet to see an episode that really has any answers on these organizations.
There's a different show also called Lost? Didn't know that. Oh wait... you're just trying to be funny. Oh well.

But, I'm happy enough to take little answers (eg. the hatch, Dharma on the island, etc), or even just a little more information on said things about the island.

Not saying one way or another, but we do not yet know how the timelines of the various flashback sequences intermix.

Although we know that starting with the finale from last season, the "flashbacks" are now flashing forward in time to when they left the island. I think they ran out of material from the pre-crash backstories, now are showing what happened to the Oceanic 6 after they get off the island (Jack grows beard, tries suicide; Hurley back in mental hospital; Sayid killing people for Ben). This is making it very interesting again.

Well, if Ben is fighting it out with someone else in the future, using agents like Sayid against one another, then my guess would either be Locke, or the terminology of an "Economist" might refer to Desmond since he might have some of his visions under enough control by then to do some economic forecasting, I suppose.

Yes, if fact there are. They are called Webisodes. It's still LOST, but they show extra footage and background of the show. So maybe you are watching these webisodes and have additional information (like who/what DHARMA really is. What the island is? What smokey is?) than the average person just watching the show.

Hence, you must be watching another show.

Now ya do.

Yes... and No...

Yeah, but they mostly raise more questions that answers. For every question answered, 10 more seem to pop up revolving around it...

I just re-watched the show, and I think there are some small comments that were made that might help decipher who this economist is (if they are someone current, and not someone yet to be introduced).

The comment made is when Sayid tells the German chick that she should tell her employer that there is newer technology out there. Referring to the fact she carries a beeper around rather than a cell phone.

To which she replies that her employeer is "very old fashioned".

This comment struck me. Do we know any current characters who are like this? Someone who prefers older technology to new? I can't think of anyone off hand, but I really don't think this was an innocent comment with no meaning behind it. I think it was a clue to the audience to help figure out who the economist is. Also, who is most likely to become an "economist"?

FWIW, right now I am also going with Locke, but not sure how the "old fashioned" thing fits into that...

Here the whole time I was thinking the girl's boss was Ben... not Sayid's. Just a feeling I had.

So... who's hers? She commented on his outdated notions on technology (when Sayid held up the old beeper)... a comment that has been made about two people on the island previously. "He feels the same way about technology you do, John." Locke and Jacob. Is the guy one of these?

Something tells me Locke is still on the island, or at least would in no fashion have left willingly, so that narrows it down a bit...

Well, since you found that comment (good find/memory!) I am now certain that Locke is the economist. What the heck is an economist anyway? I understand it might just be a front, but I would think the job title would fit in someway with the person.
