LOTR - the Two Towers *spoilers*

Skimming a couple of the reviews to find out how my fave scene, the parley with Saruman, survived the adaption I notived that TTT ends before we get to that part as well as Shelob (which I already knew about).

This brings up the question what's exactly in the three hours? just the battles? and whats going to happen with ROTK? Pete's going to have to fit Shelob, the Saruman encounter, the Eowyn & Faramir romance, the Battle of Pelenor Fields, the climax of the ring quest, plus the conclusion with the wedding(s), crowning, Grey Havens, etc.

ROTK seems like it'll be VERY long or very squished...

Given that it seems that the scouring of the shire will be absent from the trilogy entirely, I don't see a problem here. Check out your books... the one ring is destroyed just a touch over halfway through the book. With the extra stuff you mentioned, I imagine that ROTK will be just about right in terms of length. YMMV, as always.

Given that I've heard from Empire Film magazine that the Battle of Helm's Deep is going to be about 3/4 hour by itself, you seem to have your answer.

Everything I've heard suggests that this rumor is utter nonsense. The Battle's about 15 minutes long, not 45.

What I'm hearing now is that while the Battle of Helm's Deep takes 45 minutes, it is intercut with other stuff (presumably the hobbits).

An early rumor said Helm's Deep was the last hour and a half of the film. It looks (from the reviews) like it will be about 30, which may or may not include the immediate build-up.

BTW, people, I'm going to need to do some SERIOUS debriefing after I see TTT, given what reviewers are saying about certain plot twists that are different from the books. I gotta figure out what the "Faramir change" ultimately means and what the change might set up for the 3rd movie...

Just saw it. If one hand wasn't holding a baby with pink eye, I'd type a thorough review.

Some departures from the books - much moreso than the first film, but nothing so drastic that you won't recogbize it. Merry & Pippin are with Treebeard for what seems like 2.5 hours of the movie - their story has the least going on. The battle of Helm's Deep is fantastic, as is Gollum and the warg scene.

I expected non-stop action, but there's tons of dramatic moments and story there with bursts of EPIC battles.

I'll ceck in tomorrow from work and post more complete thoughts.
