On RotK extended edition - Spoilers -

I don't think that The Mouth of Sauron would say "The Ring is on its way to Sauron now". If Sauron thought that the ring was with Frodo, and knew Frodo was in the area, then why open the Black Gate at all? Just concentrate on finding Frodo and the Ring, who (presumably) are on Sauron's side of the Black Gate.

Now if Sauron thought that Pippin had the Ring, and was still with Aragorn, then opening the Black Gate and laying down the smack makes more sense for Sauron to do.

The Mouth of Sauron could taunt them about Frodo being dead, but not about Frodo having had the Ring and its going to Sauron.

imho
