Lots of short games or one long game?

For years we focused exclusively on long campaigns. Barring a TPK, campaigns frequently lasted years playing once a week. Lately, however, I have favored shorter campaigns of about a year. Pathfinder APs seem to lend themselves to this structure and we are currently enjoying Rise of the Runelords.
