Aweasome, someone figured out how to use download.com to spoof mac/ip addresses! That will teach us which edition reigns supreme. There should be an option on polls to disallow anonymous voting. That would put a bandaid on attacks like this.

Well to me this and the 4e poll show that people that vote on ENworld polls overwhelmingly love 4e and hate 3e which I think show the direction the site has been going for the past 18 months.

Note that the polls in question were obviously tampered with to skew those results — roughly 400 people voted that they hated 3e and loved 4e in a little less than an hour. This either makes them the most active ENWorld polls ever, in the entire history of the forums, or somebody deliberately skewed the results. Guess which is more likely. ;)

For me, 3.X was the best version of D&D out there. It had the greatest flexibility and ability to get beyond classes, alignment, hit points, and other matters that I was less than thrilled over with D&D.

Conversely, I still prefer other game systems to D&D.

This does not mean I hate D&D -- I can have a lot of fun with it, certainly. There are simply other systems that I prefer. :)

Since the poll has obviously been tampered with, it shows that there is _one_ person visiting these boards who overwhelmingly hates 3e / loves 4e (OR overwhelmingly hates polls in general).

Love it.

But ...

There are some very significant weaknesses inherent in the 3.x design. The balance is off at high levels, preparation takes too long, and there's too much emphasis on "system mastery".
. . .
All that said, 3.5e remains my "D&D of choice". 4e really isn't to my taste, and while Pathfinder is on balance a better game (IMO), I don't feel it is sufficiently better to convert over wholesale.

I'm in 100% agreement. I think 3e is unplayably complex at higher levels, but I love the game and just don't play it at higher levels.

Same opinions on 4e and Pathfinder too.
