Low-level adventures?

Hi all,

I've just started a new 3.5 group, and I'm wondering if anyone knows any good low-level adventures to challenge the PCs. I've looked at Sunless Citadel and the Dungeon Crawl Classics line, but they don't have as much mystery/puzzle solving and NPC interaction as I would like. I really want to give players something other than a straight-forward dungeon crawl, but I don't have the time to come up with something by myself.

I've also tried to convert some of my 2E adventures, but since I'm fairly new to 3.5 myself, its been a real bear.

Any help people could give would be most appreciated. :D

'The Eternal Boundary' is a great introductory Planescape adventure for low level characters. It doesn't really require much conversion work as long as you've thoroughly read it.
 


also try the kenzerco site for some interesting adventures.



and trolllords: a lion in the ropes isn't bad, but it is 2nd lvl
 

I DM'd a low level campaign for a while... and figured out that low level wasn't for me. I could start low level, but things I wanted to try out on the party were just too much. So, one day I took them on a side quest, possessed them, ... they went unconscious. They awoke 10 years later at higher levels and the story and reasoning was given to them at that time. BUT I didn't tell them they were higher levels... I let them find out on their own what had happened (devils used their bodies for fights over 10 years... long story, anyway...). I put them up against same monsters of previous, and did higher level adjustments myself (just for that one session, it didn't take them long to figure out they were stronger). When they started slaying things with single strikes they figured it out (their different armor, their tattered look, and unshaven hair was enough to convey to them that they had been out for a long time and busy.

Anyway, if these low levels don't work for you, you can always up them at any mid-session later.
 

I completely disagree with ConspiracyAngel's advice. One of the great things about playing an extended campaign is to watch your PCs advance from neophytes to formidable forces. Starting at, or jumping up to, high levels feels too much like 'cheating,' IMO.

I especially recommend that you should start out at first level if you are new to 3.5. The game is too complicated, IMO, to start out DM'ing at high-level.

As for the point of this thread, you mentioned the Dungeon Crawler series. I'd suggest you take another look at "The Lost Vault of Tsathzar Rho," as it does include a number of interesting twists, and has a few "puzzles" for the PCs to figure out. Granted, there is not too much NPC-interaction, but you can't have everything.

I also second the recommendation for "Crucible of Freya." You can actually download a FREE prequel for this adventure at the website for Necromancer Games.
 

I strongly recommend Of Sound Mind, written by Kevin Kulp (our very own Piratecat). The only caveat is that it's built with psionics in mind; but it would be easy to change to magic.

It's great- it actually had the most exciting climax to a module that I've ever run.
