Pathfinder 1E [LPF] Perception is Reality

[common]" Ask her Wha . . . . .?!?" He shakes his head in dismay. sighs and smiles.

[Elvin] "MY friend here wants to know if you were close enough to uh .. . . " He looks at Barlo to determine if he was pranking him, seeing no deception he continues, " tell if they were actually floating in the air to fly off, or, ahem, *cough*, I personally have never heard of this, but, walk on the water?" His eyebrow lifts slightly for emphasis on the word 'walk'.

Barlo Hawkins, Human Bard

Barlo glanced at Vincenzo as he was skeptical at the ideas. He explained, “ Ahh, mayhap you are not so familiar with magic. There are spells that allow flight and others for walking on water like it was solid ground. It would be good to know which sort of potential foe we are dealing with since flight would harder to counter than just walking on water.”

"Well," Vincenzo smiles, perhaps a little bit arrogantly, "I have a bow to reach them, regardless"

. . . . . . . . . . Johysis . . . . . . . . . .

Asked about the way the giants move, Johysis thinks a moment. "Seems to me they were several feet above the surface of the water, so I'm guessing it doesn't qualify as walking on the water," she begins, continuing to lead you back to the hilltop where you first spotted her. Pulling up her hood as she crests the hill, the dark elf kneels. "This part is trickier to explain. If you look at the town now, something has obviously gone wrong. But... if you gaze patiently, it almost seems to revert to before the disaster. I've even seen people walking about. But the color is washed out, as if the gods themselves washed the paint from the town. I don't know how much you'll be able to see in a single attempt, it took me a while before I started seeing details. I started looking for Two-Tails, but no luck so far..." Her somber voice trails off, giving the group opportunity to observe the oddness for themselves.

Barlo followed and stood on the hillock looking towards the town. “It almost sounds like someone has placed an illusion over the town... I think someone else mentioned enchantments that were obscuring what was going on down there.”

While he stared and waited to see what Johnysis was talking about he asked, “Vincenzo, if you would, please ask Johysis if she ever saw the ghouls we heard about or went any closer to the town since the incident happened.”

Taniwha pads along beside Maui who trots along next to the others to see what the drow wanted to show them. Not speaking elvish he was not following the conversation in its entirety. Everyone was looking at the town... so he sat and looked at it as well. Taniwha meanwhile remained alert for any signs of approaching danger.

[common]"Now that is something I can ask and understand."[/common]
[Elvin]"Johysis, Thank you for the clarification. We are here to hunt undead, Ghouls to be precise. We hav3e been told of an illusion placed on the town, but we are not sure what it is. When it is washed of color, you see people, but what do you see the town with its normal colors?" He watches the town with her to see if he can see what she saw.

. . . . . . . . . . Johysis . . . . . . . . . .

Vincenzo's words seem to snap Johysis back to reality as she started to stare intently at Tritower. "Oh... well. In normal color, I have seen a congregation of people gathered around the temple section just across from the west bridge, and have wondered what was wrong with them. In retrospect, those could be ghouls from the way they moved, although I dared not to get close enough to verify. In any case, they are the only ones I've seen without trying to peer into the black and white imagery. The streets are basically empty, and some buildings have burned, although that was ended by natural fire breaks. Still, residual smoke can be seen."

As the dark elf speaks, Barlo and Maui can both start sensing something odd about the town. It takes a detached gaze, a moment of peace, and the colors start to fade. However, none of the details Johysis has described spring forth. People going about their business cannot be seen. The best description is as if an impressionistic artist drew the town in black and white. It's tranquil... and eerie. However, try as he might, Vincenzo cannot see him. Only the image of Tritower you've gotten used to over the morning meets his eyes.

[section]
Meanwhile, Ethane is making himself busy looking at the town. "That's just plain odd," he comments, rubbing his eyes as if something was wrong with them. "If there is an illusion in play here, I have no idea which image of Tritower is true." He looks somewhat oddly at the dark elf, sighs, and looks again towards the troubled frontier town. For her part, Johysis did not notice his attention on her.
[/section]As the exchange of information about what is seen continues, Johysis casts a quick glance towards Maui as he takes in the reality warping vision. "You're not as you seem, either," she mutters in her native tongue. Turning her voice back to her normal volume, "Are you seeing it? If so, that brings us to the line where it begins." She points to about the place where the distortion begins. "That is why I get no closer. At that point, you are inside... whatever it is. I have yet to see anyone emerge from behind the line."

Only Barlo has the combination of sensory input and information to make out the border of where the colors begin to fade. Tracing the effect from west to east, he can see it is a gentle wide arc, perhaps fully encircling Tritower.

Barlo Hawkins, Human Bard

Barlo shared what he was seeing with the others. “Yes, I see that boundary to the illusion and reality that potentially goes all the way around. It is very strange. Mayhap the one casting it has not completed it yet, thus certain people can see the difference. But whatever the purpose, I think we are going to have to spoil their plans and purpose.”

He was not sure what else they needed from the dark elf, but he was not going to send Johysis away. “I think we should head to that divider and experiment on crossing it. Since we don't know if there is more to the enchantment besides visual illusion we should not charge blindly across. I suggest tying a rope around one of us and we can drag the person back if they suddenly lose their senses.”

The dire tiger nodded and padded to Barlo's side, waiting patiently for a line to be tied around him. If Barlo does not understand his intention immeadiately he lets out a rather strange mewing rumble at the bard and raises a paw to tap his own striped chest.
